I recently bought a 2019 C28 and wanted to check the zinc anodes. The only anode I could find is on the propeller shaft. In the "As the Prop Turns" video I saw anodes on the transom. My boat doesn't have any and there are no attachment points on the transom. I can see several green bonding wires in the bilge, but can't find where the wires terminate on the outside of the hull. What am I missing?

Thanks,

Gypsy, I believe the bonding wires running to the transom are for the trim tabs. I have a 2015 28 Cutwater and my boat has one bonding wire on the port and starboard side running to the trim tab mount hardware. I added anodes to each of the trim tabs when I purchased the boat. Hope this helps.

The bonding wires are connected to the stainless swim grid supports on our boat. The trim tabs are not bonded. Assuming the C28 is the same, If you want to add more anodes I recommend adding collar/shaft anodes to the swim grid supports below the water line. Easy peasy.

Hi Bill,

Looks like your boat was originally ordered without a transom anode (what we like to call the "diver's dream", as they are very easy for a diver to inspect or replace) or trim tab zincs. This is not unusual. You can easily add trim tab zincs for added protection if you wish, by adding them to each outer corner of the trim tab. That should be the easiest way to add additional zincs to your boat. We use these for the trim tabs. https://www.fisheriessupply.com/martyr- ... zinc/cmr03

For the transom anode, if you wanted to add one of these like what you saw in the pictures, you would have to drill a couple of holes in the transom and add the requisite bolts to hold the anode (we use the ZHC-5R for our boats http://harboranodes.com/hull-anodes-bolt-on ) but that would be at your discretion. If you choose to do this, we would recommend a competent service shop to help, so as to not compromise the hull and to ensure it is done properly. Hope this helps.

Thanks!

My trim tabs are not bonded to each other or to any other metal under water. There are no anodes attached to either of them. Do I need them? My swim platform supports are bonded and I am adding anodes to them.

Bill,

It is recommended to add anodes to the trim tabs if the boat is kept in salt water. I believe they are are not bonded due to the mounting method (no through hull bolts). While there are no dissimilar metals on the trim tabs by design (before adding the anodes!) there can be imperfections in the steel and the hinge areas and mounting screws are subject to crevice corrosion. Adding anodes will protect the tabs from this corrosion. If you keep the boat on a trailer this is unnecessary.
