Seems obvious, but does zinc anodes last longer when the boat is stored on a lift rather than in saltwater 24/7?
Thank you

Yes, if the boat is stored on a trailer or on a lift where are out of the water they will last much longer. I had them last on our trailer stored Sea Ray for 17 years and they were still in good shape.

Be careful based on how long you store the boat out of the water. If the zincs oxidize a lot (no longer shiny but instead dull gray or even cruddy) they won't protect as well. The easy solution is to scuff em up good till they shine again with sand paper or a wire brush. HTH, Gary

Has Gail has stated a zinc anode once launched in water and then removed from water will start to form an oxidized coating which makes it useless. I have talked to many boat owners about replacing their anodes when they switched from trailering to full time in water storage. The first response is the anodes are like new and have not eroded at all. My comment back to them is because they are not working!! When the zinc is introduced to the air it oxidizes. IMO Zinc anodes should not be used on trailerable or lift boats. Use aluminum anodes. Zinc anodes do not protect stern drives or outboard components very well either. Aluminum alloy anodes will do a much better job in protecting. Actually I believe Aluminum alloy anodes add better protection to all boats Sterndrive ,out board and inboard. I switched over after the first year of owning my Cutwater. I have never used zinc anodes on any of my outboard or stern drive boats. Mercuiser/Mercury marine will void the corrosion warranty if zinc anodes are used on their products. I don't know why Fluid motion uses Zinc anodes on trailerable boat!

Plus 1 BB's comment. Also like to hit the anodes with a stream of water pressure while rinsing off at haul out. A quick brushing when dry and we're ready for the next trip

+2 for BB Marine’s comments.

I just switched all my anodes from zinc to aluminum. I was getting major oxidation and they were crusting over. It’s very apparent.

We are moored in salt water at the mouth of a river. It’s salty water most of the time. But I do run up river on occasion.
