Zone 3 Fusion Amplifier Problem

Our Ranger 31-S Fusion Amplifier no longer works on Zone 3 (Cockpit). Both L & R speakers are INOP.

Both Zones 1 and 2 still work.

I spent some time working with Tim of RT, checking the fuse and wiring from the Zone 3 Amp.. Both were OK, so what I surmise is that the Zone3 amp is “kaput”.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes, you are correct, zones 1 and 2 are powered by the internal amp of the head unit. Zone 3 (and 4 on my C30) are powered from a separate amp. That amp went kaput like yours. At the time the boat was about a year old. My dealer ordered a new amp from Fusion which was replaced under warranty.

I’m afraid I don’t know the specific location on your R31. Look for some sort of access door around the head unit. Perhaps someone else can help. On my C30 it’s in the same space as and just behind the head unit. The actual changeout is fairly simple if you can plug in jacks and use a screwdriver, it’s getting access and room to work that’s the challenge. Guess that’s true for just about anything on our boats. 😉 Good luck.

PS: I was just looking at photos of the 31 and saw the head unit installed just forward of the galley. My guess is that the amp is somewhere behind that panel near the head unit.
 
I have the same problem. My son-in-law replaced the speakers, then it worked. Then it didn't and then it didn't. Currently it doesn't. When he was in the tiny space behind the helm and checking the cables and switching the zones it came on briefly and now is off again. I sure would like it to work. If you find your amp, let me know. I'd like to try replacing that (since I have an engineer son- in-law 😉 )
 
On my 29CB I had a different problem, but was able to excavate the amplifier. I had to pop off the panel on the shelf underneath the stereo. Follow the cables from the stereo and you will find it.

And a reminder, that these stereos have at least two and sometimes three fuses that are worth checking. There is an in-line fuse coming from the stereo (difficult to get to on my boat) and there are one or two fuses on the buss behind the helm. I think, but am not certain, that one of these is for the amplifier.
