Heading sensor issue

We recently purchased a 2017 Cutwater C28. I’m still new to the boat and getting familiar with everything. Our heading on our Garmin is WAY off and needs recalibration. I spoke with garmin who took me through some steps to try and find the heading sensor but we did not have any luck after going through garmin settings etc.
garmin customer support has told me to contact Cutwater to see what heading sensor we may have, or if we don’t have it, I may need to purchase one. Also where is it located?
All of this seems odd since we have autopilot. Wouldn’t a heading sensor have been installed? Garmin said that our heading is likely going off the sensor that is built in to our main unit (Garmin GPS map 7612xsv). If that’s the case they said that particular model often has a heading that is way off. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Hi there,

I'm sure your heading sensor itself is just fine. It's simply the system that needs to be re-calibrated. This is done by going into your autopilot menu and selecting the Seatrial Wizard. Here's a video that shows you how to do it. It will take you through the steps necessary. Once you get to the last step, setting north, the map will align with the correct heading of your boat again. Give that a go and tell us what you find.

Cheers!

Ralf
