Ran AC on humidity setting for a couple weeks. Came back to boat and compressor running but fan not. Cycled through settings and no change. Any suggestions would be helpful. I tried to identify the AC unit in this boat ie Elite, Passport, or Vector, so any idea on which unit was installed in the 28 helps. Finally, how do you access to the AC unit and fan...will be troubleshooting tomorrow and that info would help. Appreciate it!!

Hello,

-I tried to identify the AC unit in this boat ie Elite, Passport, or Vector, so any idea on which unit was installed in the 28 helps. Finally, how do you access to the AC unit and fan...
the unit is located inside your midcabin area. which will be behind your white carpeted panel fwd on this area. you will need to unscrew the panel for access. the brand will be a 16k air conditioner Dometic.

thank you,

The fan on the Dometic A/C on my 2012 Ranger Tug R27 failed. According to the tech who made repairs, burned start windings on the blower motor were the failure. I suspect you have the same unit on your boat. If so, I have bad news. Instead of buying a blower motor for $100 or less, you must buy a blower “assembly” for $750.

Where exactly is the AC and how do you access? Sorry not positive where you are talking about. I have a 2017 C28

Crawl head first into the cave (mid berth) as far as you can and look towards the bow. You will see a louvered vent panel with wood trim. This is the return for the AC. Remove the vent to access the AC. You will need a #2 square head (Robertson) screwdriver.

I am in the process of servicing the air unit in my 26 Cutwater. I believe it is the same lay out has 28. I removed the (port side) carpeted non supportive bulkhead and the halve carpeted panel (port forward )in cave .This will give you good access to the complete unit. The electronic panel for the unit is located on a forward bulk head which is hard to reach for trouble shooting. I'm removing it and installing it at a better location for easy troubleshooting. I am also installing valved Tee fittings to cooling water hoses close to he unit one (1) water intake to unit and (2)water exiting the unit. These T fittings will be used for loop flushing the cooling coils with muriatic acid. I am making a air plenum for the return air. The present Cutwater installed vent panel is not actually attached to the suction side of the fan and is not efficient as a return. I have had fan shut downs also. I don't believe mine are the result of a fan failure. My symptoms are all functions working, then fan shuts then 30 seconds later the compressor shuts off and the pump continues to run. If I do a complete reset using control panel then shut unit off, next turn air unit breaker off. Turn air unit breaker on wait about 30 seconds then turn air unit on everything functions properly again. This happened to me 4 times last summer. I talked a service technician from Dometic he told me it most likely was triac panel circuit is failing. There are troubleshoot procedures and a way to bypass the triac to allow the fan to run. (reason for moving the electronic panel for better access for troubleshooting ). I don't want to just replace it $450.00. I want to make sure that is what is failing first. Good luck ! Please post your findings.

I have the domestic AC does anyone know if there is a filter that should be cleaned?

Yes there is a filter that needs to be cleaned on the unit. It is a screen/mesh filter. You must remove the wood louvered vent panel to access it. Be careful when removing it and cleaning. It slides upward out of a track and can easily be deformed. If deformed makes installation difficult. The vent panel appears to be the filter also and return for the unit but does very little. ( there isn't a air plenum used between the air unit and wood louvered vent)
