Hi,

I just purchased the Subject boat used and either I don't know how to turn on the overhead light just outside the cabin door or the bulb is out. In general, the boat is in very good condition and everything is operating well.

There are two small rocker switches port side just as you enter the cabin at waist height (see pictures). The forward one turns on the white cabin overhead lights. The stern one does nothing that I can tell. I wonder if that switch operates the exterior overhead light just outside the door? If it does, then the bulb may be out cause flipping the switch does nothing.

I opened the light fixture to check the bulb but it appears to be a completely sealed unit with no easy to detach electrical connections either. My questions:

1. What does the stern-ward switch operate?
2. If the bulb is the issue, is it replaceable? Or do I need to cut the wires to the fixture and replace the whole thing?

The HID is FMLT2701D112.

Thanks for making such a great vessel.

You’ve got the right switch. I don’t know about the light fixture itself, luckily mine still operates.

Tuggernaut, thanks for replying. Ok, that's half the battle. I was hoping the external light was on a separate switch. Now I just gotta find a replacement fixture or bulb (if the existing fixture can be serviced which it doesn't look like to me).

Figured it out. I finally removed the panel behind the switch at the nav table to discover that the 4 wires (2 ground & 2 hot) were too short to reach the switch. The blade connectors on the back of the switch had all been bent downward to allow connecting the too short wiring and the wire that had the longest distance to its blade (the light in question) had come off. Some firm tugging gave me about 1/8 to 1/4 inch more run and I was able to get the wire connected and the light working.

I did not try the fuse but would be interested in knowing where it is located for the future.

Thanks to everyone.

I had the same issue, but it was my light that had quit.
Bought a new one at West Marine. Guessing it was ~$20.
I opted for a blue one just for fun.
