2023 R27 switch function?

On my 2023 RT27 (outboard) there is a switch on the dash marked “fan”. When turned on the switch illuminates but I can detect no fan activation or anything else. Can you tell me where the purple with white stripe wire marked “defrost” that connects to this switch leads to? Since there is apparently no defrost fan I would like instead to add a 12 volt power outlet with a pair of USB charging ports mounted on the dash and use this circuit for power. If the hot wire from that switch is accessible that might help determine where this proposed outlet can be mounted and save some wire routing. The charging port(s) draw a max of 6 amps DC and recommend a 10 fuse. Can you tell me if there is a breaker or fuse on this circuit and what is it’s rating? TIA.

As I have not heard anything from the factory, I thought I would ask the Tugnuts community.

The purple and white wire from the fan switch should connect to the fan. The switch should be fed by a red 10 gauge wire connecting to the fuse block behind the helm, to a 30 amp fuse marked something like "Sw Pnl" (Switch Panel). Trace the wire and see if your fan has been removed, or if is not working for some reason.

On our '21 R27OB, the defog fan is mounted under the helm seat (it's actually a Rule bilge blower). It's ducted to the two vents on the helm panel and dash. You can access the fan by removing the helm seat or the microwave. Removing the helm seat will be better access but tends to be a bit more involved.

Did your boat come with AC or is it a NW Edition with a diesel heater? I don’t think I remember seeing one of these fans when I was fixing an air conditioning problem on our LE 2023 R27 OB and had the helm seat removed.

The NW editions had a fan to blow air onto the windows. Supposed to be a defroster, it never worked to defrost or otherwise clear moisture from the window.

Did your boat come with AC or is it a NW Edition with a diesel heater? I don’t think I remember seeing one of these fans when I was fixing an air conditioning problem on our LE 2023 R27 OB and had the helm seat removed.

LE boats with AC also have the fan/blower. At least mine does.
