The unit that services the stateroom is a Webasto unit and AC tec diagnosing no freon as components working. As you know this is a sealed unit. The unit is located under the passenger seat flat footrest.
Based on your experience what is the recommended access point and procedure to remove this unit?
My observations below:
The unit is physically located under the front passenger flat foot step/rest far port side. I can partially see through small access holes by means of removeable wood bottoms in cabinetry, can't physically touch it, but can take a partial photo of it; been in the cave and removed the center line bulkhead and can see the salon AC and wire harness leading to the stateroom AC, but can't see the stateroom AC which should be behind and forward of the salon AC. The AC units are the Webasto and my AC Tec has opined stateroom AC components working, but no freon, and unit is manufactured as sealed with no freon recharge ports. My thoughts and those of others are at time of manufacture these AC units were installed prior to cap going on and no service access provided to these systems.
So who has done this before and how did you get the unit out and get new one in? What brand unit and size did you go back with? Here are some of my thoughts and approaches...?
1. Via the Cave remove the salon AC out of the way to possible access and remove the stateroom AC. While there since I have to remove both AC units, makes sense to replace both units or has anyone replaced with a single larger unit to handle total load (will have to first verify supply wiring size and breaker size for selected Unit). Not sure if existing units will be totally accessible through the cave or fit though existing access.
2. Engineer a cut design up by front passenger seat and step that will allow for removal of the unit via hole it will fit through and that can be such that finished repair will provide for easy access for reinstallation of new unit, future service and match appearance and functionality.
3. Cut in adjacent deck walkway access for removal of stateroom AC Unit and cut access ports (beck plate holes) front foot deck to help with fastener or wire removal.
4. Enter via port stateroom bulkhead by removal of wood cabinetry then cutting large access holes behind it to remove unit forward.
