This is an easy, affordable, not so aesthetic solution to hot Texas summers. We purchased the following unit from Home Depot last week...

LG Electronics 9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

Model # LP0910WNR Internet # 202051352
Store SKU # 111200

$299.00/EA-Each

It sits on the passenger seat and the vent fits perfectly out the porthole when you remove the brass screen. It's bulky and we strapped it in with a bungie cord. It sits on a 16X24 piece of plywood. We worked out a fitting and plastic tubing to drain the unit. Plugs in for shore power and I guess we're now in the market for a Honda 2000 generator. On a 100 degree weekend, it kept the cabin in the mid 70's. Like I said, it's not pretty, but it sure works and makes for a comfortable retreat.

Good idea Texas Steve.

That's our exact home bedroom interim [pre summer]and power outage unit Steve . Its a very effective unit and you should be able to hang meat in there as well as sleep ! Great Idea!

I guess you live and learn. Even though we're in a covered slip, we still get sun through the windows in the late afternoon. Covering them really helped lower the temperature inside. slept like a baby in 100 degree temps again this weekend. Now I'm looking into a battery bank for under the back bench, inverter, and solar panel as the noise from a generator seems to be quite loud to me. We checked and the unit draws 9 amps, so I guess the rest is just math.

Hi Steve, I have 8 house batteries and a 2800 watt sine wave inverter in our motor home. Does not run the ac's, but may run your 120vac unit with a similar setup. Running a residential refrigerator, lights, two computers, television, etc ,etc. I can go all night without a recharge. Usually though the coffee pot drops the voltage enough for the generator to kick in at 5 am. Solar is not going to replace all the power you use with the AC, so you may need the generator to top off the batteries. Interesting project. Our first night out was last night on our tug, AC would have made a difference. You may need a hardtop on your cockpit for the solar panels. Just some random thoughts.
