AIS Tranceiver

I finally got a Vesper Cortex installed but now I’ve hit some new problems. My autopilot is now not reporting GPS speed which also means auto guidance no longer works. I’m assuming the auto pilot feeds the Volvo engine display as well since that no longer displays speed. I can’t figure out how to select a source for the speed on the auto pilot or how to get the chart plotters to send the data. In the marine device list I can see the chart plotters and the cortex although the cortex doesn’t show as an active device. I know it’s working since I can get data through the cortex app. No idea what to do next.

I had a Vesper XB8000 installed last summer. It is not transmitting my signal. Any recommendations on an expert in Tacoma or the South Sound to check it.
Dit it ever transmit?
I installed a Vesper XB8000 3 weeks ago and it was not transmitting, I called Garmin and after a few hours some waiting for a call back (they were right on time calling back) and some checking they found out they had not programmed it properly. The did what they do and now it transmits.

Call Garmin first.

Not sure if you got things resolved Spontaneite, but here is the procedure to select the Cortex as your GPS source:

On your plotter

- Home
- Settings
- Communications
- Preferred Sources
- GPS
- Change Source
- Select Cortex

I’ll give that a try when I head to Everett for my weekly “is it still floating” check.

I’m starting to believe the installer didn’t connect the cortex to my NMEA correctly, or at all. Cortex doesn’t show up on NMEA or marine devices. My left hand plotter gets gps internally and seems to work fine but the right hand display seems to drive the gps for the auto pilot.

Bringing this to a close. Finally figured out the problem. T connector was broken. After replacing everything is working great!

Thanks to everyone for the help. Learned a lot about our boat through this adventure. Especially all the places I do not fit.

I DIY installed a Garmin 800 on our R27. The Unit itself was basically plug and play. You have to go to Garmin and download a program to load the MMSI number into the unit. Not a big deal, did it with a laptop on the boat. Seems to work fine with the original setup for the Garmin 300 that came with the boat.
