After a year of looking, happened to find just what I was looking for and made an offer. I've enjoyed this site a great deal and learned a lot. Now that I'm focused in on an almost new Ranger Tug R25SC, I'd welcome any comments/suggestions. Thanks!!

Congrats on almost getting a great boat. There are many modifications owners have made that you will see on this site. One of the most important I feel is a waste tank vent filter to control the waste tank odors. There are commercial ones you can buy or you can make one, there are pics in my photo album of the one I made.

The 25SC is now out of production and considered a "classic". Our 25SC is a 2010 with the Yanmar engine, It will turn 1000 hours this coming season.

Thanks....something for me to checkout!

Almost congratulations!

We have a 2017 R25SC, one year old now and 120 hours and love it. Of course every boat is a compromise but this one works well for us. I don't know whether you have made an offer on a cold weather version (Webasto heater) or the more tropical variety (a/c). Either will work on the Chesapeake, boated there for 20 years. Some comments will depend on that answer and most comments or suggestions can wait until you have the boat actually purchased. I know it's exciting and you want to get all the planning going 'right now' but best to not waste energy if it finally doesn't become reality.

A couple of things to check. Was the 6 month/50 hour inspection performed in a timely fashion? Volvo is keen on this. Did you get the extended warranty on the Volvo? We worked the extra warranty into the package when we bought, about a $3,000 item, to get full coverage for 5 years. Well worth it! If it's there, make sure it can and will be transferred. If the boat is less than 6 months old you may still be able to purchase. Take the engine serial number to your Volvo service guy and he will answer all these questions. Don't rely on the seller unless he is a Volvo service centre and can give you a printout. This bit is important!

We have made a couple of fixes and mods, some of which are in the album. When you have done the deal there are a couple of other pointers but nothing serious.

Thanks so much....yes, still under warranty, but will check on the 5-year option.

And...just found out, I do have 4+ years left on the warranty....thanks for the tip!!

Congratulations and welcome.

Many others have done lots of customizations to their Ranger and some members here have albums you can view to make similar changes to your boat.

One of the additions I did was to install LED puck lights in all the interior cabinets (head and gallery). You'd be surprised how much those little lights helped

What a New Year's celebration we will have....just learned our offer on a 2017 Ranger Tug 25SC was accepted....we will go out for a sea trial in the Chesapeake in the next few days and then winterize for spring. Thanks for the good comments and support...know I'll have more questions. She will be based on Trippe Creek on our pier between Easton and Oxford.

Congratulations! You have purchased a very nice Ranger Tug. Looked at it while attending the boat show in Annapolis.

After I sent you the message, I just saw this post.
Woo hoo!
Always available for a consult and mutual aid.

Many thanks....enjoying all the new "literature" I now have to study. Having mastered the flight management system in a Citation Jet, I'm sure the remarkable Garmin system onboard will become clear with use. It certainly has an impressive array of features!

Know I will be checking in with you!

Too funny... As I "cruised" the blogs - I came across the photo of your new purchase! We're buying the Cutwater 26 in the background! Tried to figure out how to post a photo but was defeated! We're keeping her in Middle River!

Congratulations on your new Tug!

We had a 2014 R25SC and just adored her. We are thrilled with her big sister as well.

We made three trips in the Puget Sound on the R25 of about 5 weeks each and loved the ports we visited. We also spent a bit over a month on her coming down the Snake and Columbia Rivers from Clarkston to Portland. This is still an active barge route, and the R25 (Classic and SC) are tugs.

We hope you have fond memories like ours. We are now preparing our R31SC for the "Great Loop" and should be in the Chesapeake in the Spring of 2019.

Thanks for the kind note!

I've been reading about the Great Loop and it sounds like a wonderful adventure!

If in the Spring of 2019 you get close to Oxford, Maryland, send a note so we can get some of our fellow RTs together to hear your stories.

All the best!

Craig

congrats on the new purchase
looks like you will need some new bottom paint before you launch for the spring!

Hey Craig, Cheers to your new toy. We also appreciate your excitement and can't wait to get our new/used 25sc on the water. I just finished a bedding mod and wanted give you heads up since we have the same tug. I'll post it on the customizations page. Your boat is newer so it may not even apply.
