C-288 dinette bed length

On my c-288 the dinette bed is a bit shorter than an adult is comfortable sleeping in due to the seat backs interfering. Is this common on other cutwater models and has anyone found a solution? Preferably without compromising the seat back function.

Same on the original 28 too.
