What is the gasket material used on the engine compartment and lazarette hatches on my 2016 C30? It is well compressed / aged and when I wash the boat water tends to get in the lazarettes…

Dave:

On our R-29S, I had to replace some gasket material. I took a sample down to Home Depot and matched it to similar weather stripping they had. I could not tell the difference and it has held up well.

Annually I also apply Sil-Glyde Multi-Purpose All-Weather Lubricating Compound on all gasket material. I have found it keeps the gaskets from weathering/compressing and provides a water-tight seal.

Hope this helps!

Mike

Thanks, I picked some up as well as the Silglyde. Will give it a shot!

I have used this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NL49QC...d_r=1b4095cd-7ec4-4eff-979f-932199a010cc&th=1It is easy to install on top of the gutter lip rather than the lid. However, you will then need to be carful not to damage it when pulling things in and out of the lazzerett or working on the engine. On the engine compartment I removed all the gasket material off the lid and then strategically installed temporary pieces on the gutter lip in each corner following the curve until straight on each side. I then used a transferable marker material and colored the top of the rubber, closed the hatch and then the hatch had the placement marks at each corner. I then drew a connecting centerline and adhered the gasket by following the line. I cleaned the lid surface by scuffing it a little with fine sandpaper and wiping with acetone. Worked very well.

I no longer own the boat.
New Owner: "bluejacket" has about 1-1/2 seasons on the Amazon gasket material.
He should be able to jump in here.
Or you could ask him.

Knotifying, thanks for the link and the installation methodology! What size gasket material did you use? The .5X.5 size?

Mike A.

I seem to remember it was the .50 X.50 I wouldn't go higher than the .50 I also had to adjust the engine latched a little to make them squeeze down nice and tight. You just have to adjust the bolt on the underside.

I used 3/4 wide by 1/2 thick.

hmm that link in your old post was for 2" by 1/4" inch, I take it that's not the right one?
