We have used a 3" memory foam topper for the last three seasons and it was comfortable but not like the bed at home. We are planning some longer trips in the next year and the memory foam topper was in need of replacement so we looked into having a custom mattress made. The mattress would need to be hinged to allow access to the storage compartments and the thruster. I contacted a mattress manufacture in Illinois that specializes in Marine ,RV and Semi truck.https://mcwhorterbedding.com/. Mcwhorter Bedding makes mattress's for Marquis yachts.
I removed the Cutwater factory cushions and Mcwhorter bedding used them as a template. The mattress has air coil springs with latex and memory foam layers, water proof base and sides and a breathable fabric in the front. Mcwhorter also made two sets of custom fitted sheets and a custom comforter. I made a new V berth base out of 1/4" marine plywood with hinges. I'm pleased with the outcome of the project.

I removed the foam from the side panels and raised them. This idea was from a C28 owner. It increased the mattress by a few inches and better for storage on the small ledge.
