I have a 2015 Cutwater 26. The shower sump float has failed. How do you ever get the box out to replace the switch or pump?

Thanks.

Hello,

The box doesn’t need to be removed, just the lid. You should than be able to access the float switch without much hassle.

Thank you,

If you box is situated like mine is impossible to remove two of the screws that hold down the lid unless you detach the box and reorient it. Any idea why the shower sump was installed this way? My pump is running continuously and I need to access the float to see if it is defective.

Mine will also run continuously if I leave the fuse in! I take the fuse out after a shower. Impossible to get to the two screws mentioned- that are under the shower pan area.
That's why I just take out the fuse!

Thanks Bill. I have resorted to removing the fuse as well. I'm hoping there is a better fix but for now it will do. I think the A/C condensation also drains here so I need to periodically check the box as we don't use the shower all that much.

The trick to removing the lid is once the screws that are located under the deck are removed, leave them out and just install the screws that are accessible. It is hard and time consuming to get to and remove the screws.( honestly after 6 or 7 years of building the boat, Cutwater should realize how poor the location is. They would change the location if they had to pay someone each time the lid needs to be removed). I removed the buried screws using a screw driver bit with a 1/4" open end wrench with electrical tape stuck to the open end face to hold the bit in place then 1/4 turns at a time, effectually the screws were removed multiple cuss words were expressed and the lid was off, basin cleaned, new swith installed and lid reinstalled with half the screws. ( Side note to this, we don't use the shower much. We were leaving on a trip last fall and planned on using the shower during the trip. I tested the sump before we left. I poured water in the shower drain and it didn't work. I replaced the float and it functioned properly.)

I replaced the screws for the lid with thumb screws. Much quicker now to remove.

During the survey for my recent purchase of a C-26 - The surveyor recommended simply removing the top and leaving it off - such that the shower sump then becomes another bilge pump in case of a major influx of water...

After thinking about it - I can't find fault with the idea - the sump should always be nearly dewatered - and it is contained under a floor board that keeps out debris - so why is a lid needed?

Good question, unless it is a splash issue. I watched the box while the shower water was being expressed from the box and it looked like it was a mini hurricane inside the box!

If you do that confirm your limber hole is cleaned out and clear so if water spills or splashes out it can drain to the engine compartment.
