My air conditioner blower seems to shut off periodically (say every 20 mins), even though the raw water cooler continues to run. It stops for about 3-5 mins then automatically restarts. Any idea what could be causing this?

What is the temp where your thermostat is located. It id it close to the set temp it will shut down and restart as the temp starts to climb again.

Also, there is a setting on the t-stat that allows the coil to defrost. Your symptom sounds like it may be set for the defrost. The unit will suddenly shut down, you will hear a click or two and then after a few minutes it starts up again. What the unit is doing is actually going in reverse cycle to heat the coils and melt any ice build up. This setting is good in hot humid climates as it prevents the coil from freezing up.

Interesting. Mine does the opposite. When it reaches temperature the compressor and water pump shut off while the fan stays on.

Denny,

There are several settings that can be made via the t-stat. Besides the coil defrost, you can also set how you want the fan to function. One of the settings it to keep the fan running even if the cooling is satisfied.

If the blower is set for continuous, even after the temperature is satisfied, will the blower stay on during the defrost cycle? On my Cutwater 30 there have been several times that the blower runs, but no cooling and the ambient temperature is way above the set point. No codes are shown on the display.

The fan will blow during defrost. You need to press specific buttons on the t-stat to access the setting codes.

Thanks for the replys..

I have cycled through the settings and will continue to familiarize myself with these... But in my case, the entire unit shuts down entirely - no fan either, on a random basis. It usually occurs after 30 mins or an hour of operation, so I suspect it does relate to defrost or some other check value that is triggered. I'll have to do some specific trouble shooting when it happens next time to get more inputs. But the encouragement to go through all the settings was helpful.
