Yes, it's possible. We finally made use of our new Saturn SD230 dinghy that's been sitting packed in it's bag in the large cockpit storage hold. Anchored out for the first time in 3 seasons (I know, I know) and also used the windlass for the first time ever. Now I'm not sure why we waited so long but that's another story.

As planned but never executed, I took the dinghy out of the bag, set it in the cockpit while anchored, and blew it up with the hand pump. Piece of cake. I'm very impressed with this small but well constructed dinghy. It seems very solid and is 7'6" and weighs 66lbs. After using it to get to shore, I sized up the swim step and decided that the dinghy would fit there. It fit perfectly, did not extend past the sides of the boat, did not inhibit the motors and was easy to secure using bungee cords snugged down tightly. When we were done with using it, the dinghy surprisingly deflated and folded back nicely in the bag and back into the storage hold it went. I'm very happy with this solution.

Thanks for sharing this - been looking for a solution for our R23.

Any way to make the pictures bigger?

Thanks.

Thanks Bruce. It's actually Salish Seaker's photo album but the link Bruce provided is correct. 😀

This looks great.

Is the little outboard used on the dinghy? Or is that a kicker for the boat?

That's our 9.9hp Yamaha kicker. We have a separate 2.5hp Suzuki for our dinghy. Didn't bring this trip.

Thanks so much! We have been looking and this looks like a perfect solution!!

I must add that you can't access the swim step with the dinghy stored on it. But we can still handle the lines for docking by using the gunnel steps. And remember, our dinghy is small. Just FYI.

Can 2 people fit on this dinghy?
Yes, lotsa room, very sturdy. Look up Saturn SD230 on their site

We went a different way for a dinghy. We got a Saturn K boat which is a two person 12 foot inflatable kayak with a hardback for a small motor. It's light and easy for me my wife and I to put up on the sport rack. it gives us the usual dingy plus a kayak that is fun to paddle around an anchorage and does not block the swim platform.
