After purchasing our R29 the Covid hit and this last weekend was our first real trip out. We took my wife’s brother and his wife and found that traveling with four is not to bad. We left Friday and returned today (Monday). We made a small loop leaving Twin Bridges and headed to Roche Harbor for our first night. Our second night was a short shot spent on my friends dock in Reid Harbor on Stuart Island. He has 40 acres and seven beaches stretching through Johns Pass. From Stuart we next went to Sucia and were lucky enough on a Sunday night to get dock space. Met a nice couple from Oregon on the other side of the dock in a Cutwater. Then back to Twin Bridges, we had no problems other than I heard my bilge pump come on for a few seconds every couple hours. After trouble shooting my brother in law found the leak with a small amount of water entering through the water intake between the nut and the hull so I will replace the fitting or try to figure out a gasket to fix the problem.
Lots of boaters out over the weekend, think my next trip will be during the week.

Wow, it sounds like you had a set of dream destinations for a first trip, nice!

Your post makes it sound like you have a leak around a thru hull fitting. If that is the case there is no real fix other than hauling the boat out of the water, removing the through hull, rebedding it and allowing it to cure, and the reassembling.

That is NOT a place to loosen a nut, put some silicone in and hope for the best. I only mention this as it would seem logical in a home repair situation but in the bilge of a boat it would not be appropriate. Apologies if you already knew this ;-)

Karol, you might want to check out Eric's (epohi) post on 9-jul-20,about a leaking issue of the thru-hull that caused some delamination of the hull. Hope yours is a easy fix but would be wise to check to make sure you won't have a bigger problem later. Good luck Bob

Thanks for the comment. I keep my boat at Twin Bridges Marina which is heated dry storage, Tom & Jerry’s (mechanics on site) are looking into it so pulling the boat out of the water is part of my monthly marina charge so there is no extra charge for getting the boat out of the water.

Congratulations on your maiden voyage, all great stops. Let us all know the outcome of the leak repair.

Jim
