What do others of you have for a foot rest for the port side seat? We have nothing. Where does the passenger put his/her feet? genny@iserv.net

Hmmm,

In later models there is a removable stainless bar that is used for this purpose. It should not be hard to add to your 21ec.

D&G, I recently purchased a step for my 2007 21EC thru Richard at Ranger Tugs. It is well built(Chinese I think -not Groton SS) I'm at present installing the new mast and haven't gotten to the step yet. It may not work ?? This new step was designed for the later 21EC's which have a redesigned wider cabinet for the sink/stove to accomodate the recessed fitting (about 3"s deep)that the step slides into--it's installed between the front corner and the edge of the cabinet door trim. Their may not be enough space to drill the hole(about an 1") due to the curve of the front cabinet edge and the space between the cabinet trim and the curve. With the weight of a person stepping up on the step , I believe it needs a backing plate (1/4 " aluminum might work ?)to distribute the stress on the 2 screws to a wider area ? Don't see enough room for a plate ? It sticks back into the cabinet 3"s and will create a lot of torque on the 2 mounting screws and the F/G when you step up on it, which will lead to cracking the F/G. Cheers Ray

I was informed by Ranger early on that the step they're now using will not work with my 2008 21 and presumably earlier models because of the modifications to the cabinet they made to accomodate the step in later models.

I have successfully installed the step on my 2008. I added some photos of the modification on my site. The setup works to assist the passenger to get up on the seat, but it would be nice to get another set of fittings for placing the footrest in a higher position. This would make cruising more comfortable for the passenger.

It appears that Ranger was correct in advising me that a footrest would not retrofit...

D&G, It can be done.Looking at Portugeezer's photo's it appears he has the later/wider cabinet? #1--cut a shim the same thickness as the teak cabinet door trim.A little longer & a little wider then the chrome mounting plate.Make the left side fit the curve of the cabinet and the right side flush against the cabinet trim. You can now move the the mounting plate a 1/4" over on to the cabinet door trim. This gives plenty of room for a backer plate on the inside of the cabinet.Aluminum backer plate or 2x4-1-1/2" cut to fit .Wider and longer the better,to distribute the wgt when stepping up on the step.Portugeezer mounted his below the cabinet door ,which doesn't allow you to rest your feet on it after your on the seat(as he noted) This is not an issue since it swings to the left out of the way for cabinet access, without removal. #2--cut 1/4 " off the side of the the mounting flange plate--this it moves over to the right away from the cabinet curvature and flush agaist the cabinet trim--same result as #1. If not making any sense PM me and I'll walk you thru it. Cheers RB

D&G, As Bruce well knows I'm computer illiterate.Typed it twice one finger and site said I wasn't registered?? Senior moment on original post--it's Bolton SS not Groton. Really won't have to worry about the curve of the cabinet. The Teak packing shim allows you to move the mounting flange 1/4" or more to the right, which gives plenty of room inside of the cabinet for the backer and moves the mounting plate away from the curve. Plenty of room to drill the cabinet for the 1"x 3"' cylinder, that sticks inside of the cabinet. It will give it a "Made That Way At The Factory Look " Cheers RB

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions. We're off to see our marine mechanic/one-man-does-it-all with ideas in hand!

To all ; I installed the factory footrest in my 2007 21EC.It took less then an hr! Looks like it came from the factory installed. It can be done very easily. I also installed the new SS mast. Looks great! Cheers RB
