Hey!

I want to carry a spare Fresh Water Pump so I figured I might as well upgrade mine and carry the old one as a spare.

Any recommendations?

It's for a 2017 Ranger Tug 29S.

Thanks!

Just replaced a Jabsco model 32600-0592 , 3.5 gpm, 40 psi with a
Johnson Pump model 10-13329-103 , 5 gpm,25-51 psi variable speed pump.
The Jabsco worked fine but was really loud. We’ve had variable speed water pumps on other vessels and they were much quieter.
The quick connections were identical so no plumbing required. The mounting holes were spaced a little differently but still an easy swap.
Unfortunately we have not been able to test this installation yet as temperatures have not been favorable for a trailered boat here. We hope to get in the water next week and will let you know the results.
Hope this helps

That looks like a nice upgrade! Let me know how it goes.

I did the Variable Speed pump also due to the noise of the stock pump. Highly recommend it!

Any gotchas on the install anyone encountered?

We also replaced with the Johnson variable speed and have been very happy. Much quieter. (Added a small accumulator at the same time, maybe not necessary but seems nice, too.)

There were no gotchas at all on our C30. As Chris noted, it fit all lines, etc., and differed only slightly in the mounting screw locations. One of the very easiest significant things I've done on the boat.

Much appreciated everyone! Pump on order!

You might have to switch to a higher amp breaker than the original. Seems to me my upgraded pump pops breaker occasionally.

This Johnson pump ,10-13329-103, requires a 15 amp fuse which is identical to the Jabsco pump which it replaced.
Good to go.

Thanks for calling that out! My current Johnson one is 10amps. Need to check wire gauge and upgrade if needed.

Dexmot74,
Did you end up upgrading the wiring on your new freshwater pump?
Our current loud pump is also running on a 10 amp fuse.

Not yet! It's the last item on my checklist. Soon hopefully. Shouldn't be too hard as the run is quite short.

I too have ordered the Johnson pump referenced earlier. The brown+yellow stripe wire coming out of the fuse box looks to be 12 or 14 AWG. Will have to confirm that prior to installing the pump. Tables say 14 AWG for the 15 amp pump load should be fine.

We had the Johnson variable speed pump and still found it noisy. We upgraded to the Marco Mate 6.9gpm and have been very happy with it.

I have a Marco gear pump on the way, will let forum know how it works out. The diaphragm pump from factory is just too loud. DS

IS it the $800 + pump? I looked, they are not cheap.

The pump is in, and the hammering and noise is gone. The pump is the Marco Up-2e, the small one. $220 from LFS. 2.6 gpm, which is fine for us. An easy install. Manufacturer notes that adding several feet of flexible hose, helps to reduce noise. So on output side of pump I added about 6 feet of 1/2 inch hose, just made a loop from pump to factory connection. Lot of room there for the loop. Dan

Finally did this upgrade. Was easy. Swapped out pump. Holes lined up perfectly and changed fuse to 15amp. The wiring was beyond what's needed for 15amp so good there.

Much quieter and I also wrapped the water lines in hose insulation in a few spots to stop some banging.

My Jabsco pump was loud, really loud. I added Johnson Pumps 09-46839-01 Accumulator Tank and now it's whispering quiet. To say I'm happy with this accumulator tank is an understatement.
I carry Johnson Pumps 10-13406-107 Aqua Jet WPS 5.2 as my spare.
