I have reviewed how to install a gi by putting it in the middle of the green ground wires of the incoming ac from the shorepower plug. However I cannot see enough of the wires that appear to be on the boat side of the plug. It seems that there is a small bundle of three or four wires in the area of the plug (in the port side cockpit battery area) that includes a green ground wire. But there is also a larger flexible grey cable that appears to contain several wires. If the latter then do I have to cut into that cable to get to the ground wire and the tape it back up. Please advise.

I just installed one in my C28 and when I removed the shore power inlet plug, I was able to disconnect the green ground wire directly from it. I then added the GI in between it with a new green wire between the inlet and the GI and connected the existing green wire to the house side of the GI. I did add a few feet of wire so I could locate the GI in a more accessible location.

I did the same as Klaassyc running extra wire to mount it under the cabinet below the cooler. I called Bellingham Yachts and that is where they install them.

Thanks your response was helpful. Coming out from the vicinity of the inlet plug is a bundle of four wires blue red yellow and green. I used a mirror to see if they came from the plug but couldn’t tell for sure. Do you know. If that green wire is th proper ground that would simplify making the connection. Finally what go did you use.

Many thanks for your help.

That doesn’t sound right. It should be black, white and green. Have you unscrewed the inlet plug so you can access the backside? Mine had enough extra wire to pull it out and see the connections clearly. The existing wire was 6g I believe.

Thanks klassyc I have not pulled the plug but will ry that next. From what you said the four color wire that I’d identified does not come from the plug.

While you are doing all that I’d highly recommend installing a smart plug.

What is a smart plug
