Garmin vhf 200 will receive but will not transmit over mic.cannot get a radio check. Em-trac ais is tied into vhf via nmea2k and is transmitting all info
I.e. lat /long,etc.Bridge vhf hand held behaves the same way. Power is good, antenna is good.
Anyone have this happen?
2016 c30

make sure it is set to high power (25w) vs low power (1w). Some channels will force this, others you can choose.

Hi DB,
Am on 25w still no joy.

Borrow another 200's mic and see if it works.

Has the radio ever worked standalone - as in before the Em-Trak was connected (was this a new AIS installation)?
Can we assume you are sharing a single VHF antenna between the EM-Trak and the VHF 200 radio?
If so, and since I think the VHF 200 does not include an internal splitter, can we assume you are using a splitter that is built into the EM-Trak (I'm not sure all models of Em-Trak support antenna signal splitting) as opposed to a standalone splitter?
Whichever splitter you are using, have you tried bypassing the Em-Trak (and standalone splitter if there is one) by plugging the VHF antenna back into the radio directly? This is a diagnostic step only - if you disconnect the antenna from the Em-Trak you won't have AIS obviously. The point of the above is to try to isolate in which component your issue resides.

If you find out the issue is with the Em-Trak and its internal splitter, you may have to go searching to see if there is some software configuration you need to set on the AIS unit. Or.....

For what it is worth, on our boat we installed a separate AIS VHF antenna specifically because we didn't want to depend on a signal splitter. The day we needed the VHF radio we didn't want some extra electronic component sitting between the radio and the antenna. Also, you can get an antenna more appropriate to AIS signals that may actually give you better AIS transmit performance than the antenna designed for the VHF radio.
Won't help you now, but might be worth considering in the future.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes the ‘em-trac ais has a splitter and uses the vhf antenna. Will try bypassing and connect antenna to radio. Hard to find another mic to test but will try and find one.I have yet to be able to purchase one. Garmin doesn’t even make them any more for the 200. Perhaps the radio itself has a problem. Any compatible replacement suggestions ?
Thanks
George

This sentence is a little confusing: "Bridge vhf hand held behaves the same way".

If I understand your situation, you already have two microphones. I think you have a standard microphone in the cabin and a remote mic on the command bridge. If I have that right, It is very easy to take one off and try the radio. If it still fails, replace the first and take off the second and try it. That test should go a long way to confirming if you have a microphone issue.

There is a ghs10 radio/mic for the bridge, has all the functions of the base unit radio at lower helm. They are not interchangeable ,however neither will transmit at their intended station. Garmin no longer produces or have any in stock.
Hard to imagine both mics would fail simultaneously. I will try bypassing the AIS and plug antenna directly into radio as suggested in this discussion to troubleshoot on Friday.
Thanks for the participation.
Best,
George
