You might want to check your math a bit there, the alternator on the 20hp kicker does do 16 amps at wide open throttle, but it is at 13ish volts. That totals A little over 200 watts. The Honda can output 1600 watts continuous

Ha! Yeah like I said I’ve never done it, I was just curious enough to look up the amperage just now. My only experience on this was being next to someone in an anchorage for two days with someone using their fishing boat kicker as a generator. Paddled over to ask about it and he seemed to be happy with the setup, but didn’t get into the details.

Oh he wasn't idling it -- that's how I knew he was using it! Was wondering why someone was gunning an outboard, at anchor, so I went over and asked. Wish I had more details on his setup beyond the brief and very casual conversation as now that I'm thinking about it I have all sorts of questions about how he made it work.
