I purchased, a year ago, the Ranger Tug 25, HIN # FMLT2521A707.
Vessal has factory enstalled GENSET, MASE is2.5S , powered by the YANMAR model L48V engine.
Engine has only 71 hours and has run just fine till now. WILL NOT START.
Getting suficient fuel to injector, to produce the correct spray pattern, acording to MASE.
Valve clearances are per spec. Compression release is not damaged and functional.
Checked compression and getting 300 psi. Service Manuel states, " STANDARD' 360 psi. and " LIMIT" 285 psi. I interpret that to mean the psi should not be lower than 285, nor higher than 360, and all else being functional, the engine should start and run at a compression reading at anything between those two limits.

QUESTION, SHOULD IT START WITH A COMPRESSION OF 300 psi ?

Have I missed checking something else ?

Thank you in advance.

Hey there Bob,

Congrats on your purchase. Unfortunately we aren't the best generator guys here. I would suggest contacting MASE directly and asking them the technical question. They should be able to tell you anything you need to know about that unit.

Thanks Bob,

My R25 has the same Genset. Last year I was unable to use my boat for about 10 months due to health reasons where it stayed on hard. This year things have improved & I have seen much more boat use. Only real issue from storage was Genset would not start. After much investigation we found that these otherwise simple engines do have an electric controled shutoff solenoid which will tend to stick if not exercised. Mine was sticking partially shut such that the engine either got too little or no fuel. After we finally replaced the electrical lug to the solenoid (corroded slightly) and tapped onthe solenoid it properly opened to allow normal starting. Now the problem became sticking open. Of course this is only way to remotely shut off these engines so I had to take off the cover and manually secure the engine. After several short starts and stops I had exercised the solenoid enough to free up the solenoid internals and it has run fine for the last year. I also make sure I exercise the Genset more often now.
