Global Impellers

Be careful if you order Globe #100 impellers from Amazon right now - I've ordered two and both came with just the package, no impeller. I'm sure they will fix it but why bother.

Earlier this year I ordered (from AMAZON) the GLOBE impeller for my Yanmar 3YM...they shipped the WRONG impeller. I called GLOBE direct and they shipped the correct one no problem.

Does anyone have the Global part # for the Yanmar 4BY2- 180 impeller ?

Global #100 is for the 4BY2. I ordered it twice from Amazon and both times I was shipped an empty bubble pack - gaskets but no impeller. I have a third one on order and will confirm it is correct if it comes. /Stu

Very cool that Globe is available on the site. 🙂

Not sure if anyone has tried the Globe impellers in the Cummins 150hp. I don't recommend it. I tried and it was virtually impossible to install the impeller without modifying it. The keyway and shaft bore on the one that I got were so tight that you would basically have to have the pump on a bench to get the impeller installed. Imagine working by feel with one hand and having to line it up just perfectly.

Another thing about them is that the impeller was pre-lubricated with what seemed to be a silicone lubricant. It's like working with a greased pig. I put a wire tie on the impeller, compressed it ready to install, and set it down on a table to do something else for a minute. When I came back the wire tie had slipped off and was laying on the table next to the impeller. Being hard headed I repeated that exercise again before I went old school and used a hose clamp in place of the wire tie. Same result :?

Luckily I also had an OEM impeller on hand so I could finish the job.

The reason I decided not to try them was that there is no clear numbers as to how much longer than a regular impeller they will last. If I have to check the impeller at 250 hours I may as well change it since I am 3/4 done with the job. I thought spending the additional money on a raw water alarm was a better value.

With a plastic muffler the low flow alarm is a good idea. I'm installing one this spring as well.
