Holing Tank Odor or leak

As other stated always look for the obvious leaks and broken items......but it has been my experience that within the Salt water are creatures that die once trapped in your Sea strainer intake...Head and lines...raw water wash. Any place that outside water (salt or not) gets in, will smell sooner or later. When we bought our Ranger R25 is was awful, and I still bought it knowing it was possible to removed. I cleaned that boat till the stink went away. It was in everything. So it does not have to be actual sewage it could be Dead sea water stuck inside someplace. If you really wanted to clean the system out you should use city (chlorine) water with the recommended cleaning agents. All lines should be sanitized. Our boat stays in Fresh water, the tank can go a couple weeks with #2 use and the smell does not come inside the boat and is minimal outside.. I think much of the smell most experience comes from Sea water.

We use this product to clean our winery equipment and also used it to clean my holding tanks and lines, Also for the fresh tank. I would NOT run it thru the raw water intake. Sodium Percarbonate Available at winery supply shops. Solid white crystals that are the solid form of hydrogen peroxide. When mixed with hot water make a slippery cleaning agent that bubbles a bit like an alka selster. Not to be handled dry or mixed. Once the tanks (we have a 18gal grey tank and standard 30 gal black tank)are full I wait 30 min then pump out the entire system and double water wash everything again. If this does not clean it out, repeat the process....after that, you should head up the creek without your paddles.
.
Hope this helps

Thanks for all the information and replies.

We just returned from inspecting and putting a deposit on a "new" 2012 27'. It was only used as a display boat at shows. We believe we got a great deal.

thanks again.
