I see the inverter charger does the house and engine.
Not sure what charges the thruster.
Looking at the owner's manual (don't own my C30 yet, maybe next week), the solar charges the house (90%) and engine (10%).
What charges the thruster battery?
What does the alternator charge?
What does the inverter/charger charge? I believe house and starter.
Thanks all.

I have a 2019 C28. Should be wired similar. Battery charger charges the house bank engine battery and thruster battery. Alternator charges all 3 as well. Solar as you described 90-10 house engine, no thruster. That said, it's 5 years old and owners do things to boats, so I would trace the wiring from charger to battery if you have concerns.

Wonder why solar doesn't do thruster which is also for generator start?
Seems like that would go down in charger after a few generator starts. Maybe the generator charges the thruster/generator battery? If you are on the hook/boon docking for 30 days....may want that charged.

The generator connects to the main AC system, so it powers the battery charger and hence, chargers all 3 banks of batteries. As to solar, I think that is more to maintain the lower draw things you use during the day at anchor, like the stereo, fridge etc.

Yes, I get it. Thanks, gen does charger, charger does all.
Didn't think of that.

The wiring diagram will give you a clear pic at to how it works.

Also you want to become familiar of the wiring layout when your in the engine compartment.

Thanks. I don't have any manual yet. Going to survey a C30 on the 25 of the month!!! I'm trying to get smart before I go.

Hi!

The inverter/charger combination directly charges the house bank (house batteries). The voltage sensitive relays (also known as the ACRs - automatic charge relays) will sense the up-spike in voltage and allow the charge to distribute to the engine and thruster banks. You will see no charge from the solar panel to the thruster bank.

Thanks!

Thanks for the help.
I assume...you are talking about being plugged into shore power. Is it different for the generator?

--- I've been looking at the schematic. Do the ACRs work both directions?
I think they only pass current/voltage when the inverter/charger is charging. Then, when inverting only, the thruster and engine relays are disconnected as to not drain the engine and thruster batteries because the ACR has isolated engine and thruster from house bank.
If you are running the generator, it powers the inverter/charger which does the same as shore power. But I see that the generator 12 volt + and - are connected the Thruster battery. I know the generator is started by the thruster battery.
---Does the generators 12v charge the thruster battery by some type of alternator/stator/rotor/magnito? Does the generator make ANY 12 volt power or is it all AC?

---ACRs. Is there a voltage set point or just voltage sense of any reasonable voltage? I.e. If I go Lithium, will they work with the higher voltage of about 13.8 vs. lead acid at about 12.8?

Thanks again for your patience in my attempt to understand the system.

I'm going to try to go lithium on my 2015 C30.
- need alternator protection from the instant cut off of the lithium BMS and killing the diodes in an alternator.
- need a box or charge controller from alternator to allow charging of lithium and also to prevent killing the alternator from working too hard and getting hot charging a large (400Ahr) lithium bank.
- need a new inverter/charger that will work with lithium
- need solar charge controller that works with lithium.
I'll likely do all lithium (house, engine, thruster) to keep things/charging simple and same voltages.

I can look up a schematic of the voltage sense switch ACR if someone has a manufacture and model/part number.
Also, anyone have a model and manufacture of the inverter/charger from a 2015 C30?
Thank you all!
Cannot wait to get my C30 in 5 days!!!
