HVAC access

Greetings,

How do I access the HVAC compressor and HVAC raw water thru hull? It looks like I need to remove the fridge. I'm having trouble getting good water flow through the strainer...

Not familiar with the location of the compressor on the 28, but if you are getting poor water flow did you check your strainer. It should be located in the bilge right after the thru hull fitting with a valve. It should be the smaller strainer. The larger strainer is for the engine, head and raw water.

to get to the compressor/condensor/blower unit requires a head first dive into the berthing under the dinette. remove the forward port side panel (the one that contains the filter screen). your HVAC is right behind this panel. removing/reflecting the foam mattress makes the project easier. a small squarebit screwdriver will loosen the the screws - which can be tough to find if they are buried deep in the mouse fur. on a c28 removing the fridge will not help you much with the HVAC.

as another has stated. the HVAC strainer is the forward one of two on the port engine compartment bulkhead, the HVAC pump is immediately adjacent and just forward from its strainer. when looking for a flow limiting lesion start from the outside in at the thru-hull. is your boat in cold enough temps to freeze some water in the line?

One more piece of advice on the water flow thru the sea strainer. We recently had no water flow and after checking the impeller to see that it was in fine shape and making sure the sea strainer was clean I closed the sea strainer valve. I then took the sea strainer clear cap off and opened the valve. I should have had plenty of water flow but I only had a dribble. I then unscrewed the water hose coming into and going out of the sea strainer so I could take them off the strainer. After that I took the screws out that hold the sea strainer to the hull. My mission was 2 fold....with the sea strainer off I was able to flush out the strainer better but more importantly I found that the incoming water hose (from the thru hull fitting) was choked with sea grass. With the sea grass pulled from hose I opened the thru hull to wash any left over sea grass thru the hose, reassembled everything and my problem was solved. This may or may not be your fix but its worth a try. If you do this make sure you rinse your engine compartment down with fresh water (assuming you're in salt water) to clean away the corrosive salt deposits.

Your Cutwater has a high speed pick-up on the hull bottom, if it gets clogged with any sea grass it will cut off your water flow. I would also check your strainer as that would be the next place to restrict water flow.
As in the previous posts the HVAC unit is located in the fwd port corner of the qtr berth, behind the close out with the return air grill.

Thanks to all for your help and guidance; especially about the access via the "berth".
In the end, we applied a bit of air pressure at the outlet of the raw water filter and "blew out" whatever was chocking of the water flow.
All is now well aboard JoRoMar!
