Barbara and I are thinking about driving Tugnacious up to Lewiston in late August and making the long trek down the Snake to the Columbia, ending in Portland. We would fly back to Lewiston to retrieve the truck and bring it down to Portland. The idea is to then head up to the Rendezvous to visit with the Tugnut crowd September 6-8 and visit friends in the San Juan Islands. We want a River-Horse adventure that fits the R-27.

There are some older posts on this kind of trip, but we are seeking any more recent beta that others might have. We know there is no diesel at the marina in Lewiston (no problem since we are trailering). But are there issues with the locks, anchoring, places to get off the boat and mess around (wine country!), number of days, etc. Any thoughts welcome, and feel free to PM us if you like.

Thanks. This is a great site.

Hi --We took a trip in Sept from the Tri-Cities, thru Portland and on to Astoria. It's our second trip on the Columbia. In prepping for the cruise, we collected info on sites with wind/weather forecasts, free charts of river, locking info and the anchorages and marinas along the route. Much of it is in digits we can send. We also have some feedback and lessons learned on the good and less good anchorages and stops. It was a great trip -- you'll wnjoy it. if you want info contact me by PM and we'll set something up. Bill

Thanks Bill. Will PM you later with questions. This looks like a great trip.

For those who have not yet read it, there is a nice summary of this trip in Bill and El Fiero's travels in their C-Dory:

and for any other river trip you might want to make. Active Captain is a bit thin above the confluence between the Columbia and the Snake. We hope to fill in some blanks there.

Thanks Charles Kollerer (formerly) of Blue Bayou for the link and some stories about Bill and El.

Jeff

You're welcome, Jeff.
It was Bill and El Fiero who inspired me to follow their example, and "cruise America," except with a Ranger 25 rather than a C-Dory. At first, I took my Ranger 25 (#65 in production, as I recall) to a lot of C-Dory gatherings, as there were so many of them, and none for Tugnuts. I had the good fortune to cruise with Bill and El many times. What a great couple !!!
Now, with all the Ranger Tug gatherings, I'd have my year full----just trailering all over the country to make Ranger Tugfests.
