In Florida you may only take lobster (aka spiny lobsters, craw fish) by hand. NO SPEARS. However a mop does fine as it tangles on the shell with all the small spines (hence the name spiny lobster. These crustaceans do not have claws, but long antennae that they wave about to ward off predators). Some dive shops sell tickle sticks, measuring gauges, noose sticks (poles with a wire or nylon loop that you use the tickle stick to cause the spiny lobster to raise its tail and move about so you can place the noose around the body and snare it. Don't pull to hard or you will cut it in half 😳
In the Bahamas Hawaiian slings are allowed to take lobsters. NO SPEAR GUNS. Check with the latest regulations as to the dates and quantity of fish and crustaceans to take an any one time.
I have left boating and have lots of left over dive and fish gear. Includes a Brownie Third Lung, 300 ft hoses and three regulators, spears, weight belts, wetsuits, etc. A really great was to explore the Bahamian reefs at a leisurely pace and not be gulping for air. PM me for more information.
