While I was winterizing my 2017 C-28 today (out of the water) I lost the prime to the head from the strainer as I flushed it until all the seawater ran through it before adding antifreeze to the sea strainer. I now realized i should not have done that as I lost the prime to the head and it will not pull the antifreeze from the strainer when i flush.

Question: How do i get the prime back? and if i just flush antifreeze directling in the head will that winterize the system or would the line from the strainer to the head still have raw water in it?

Thru hull valve closed, sea strainer lid off, fill sea strainer with antifreeze, pour 1 gallon of anti freeze in the toilet bowl,( the waste hose going to the waste tank holds approximately a gallon of water.) push flush button and it should pull antifreeze from strainer, when you see antifreeze coming in bowl your done..( the pump is a diaphragm pump it may take 20 or 30 seconds to pull the antifreeze through if the pump lost prime) At the same time if your raw water wash down gets its water from the same sea strainer pour more anti freeze in strainer and open wash down valve and turn raw water wash down pump on until anti-freeze comes out.

On my 27OB, I had to have somebody pour the antifreeze into the strainer while 'flushed' the toilet a few times to get the prime back and antifreeze thru the system. Not sure if your Head system is the same as mine though.

Thanks Brian. I will give it a try when I am back at the boat later this week. I did try dumping a gallon of Antifreeze directly into the head but i dont think held the flush for long enough (probably only for 15 seconds)

Just a quick update. I figured out that on my boat the raw water for the head has its own thru hull pick up and does not appear to have a sea strainer just a backflow valve. So unlike the older models where the head is one of the ports on multiport sea strainer my multiport sea strainer is only raw water washdown pump and to a secondary strainer which then goes to the AC Unit.
