The Cutwater 24 shown on the website is shown with Scotty down rigger mounting plates installed in front of the side railings in the cockpit area, however my Cutwater did not come with these plates.

I am planning to mount a Canon downrigger instead. Does anyone's have experience doing this? What is the thickness of the fiberglass at the mounting point and is it possible to get under the mounting area to install nuts or do well nuts need to be used?

Thanks
Sean

Hey there Sean,

Thanks for inquiring about the downrigger pads and outlets. Depending on the year and model of the 24, the thickness of that area had changed whether or not downrigger mounts were ordered with the boat. If you plan to install a canon mounting plate, I would make sure that you back it with something underneath to ensure the strength will withstand the downrigger torque. You can also peak in and around that area as I believe there might already be wiring in place.

Hope that helps!

Reinforcing is particularly important if you use a crab puller on the downrigger plate.

Andrew

Boat was purchased Summer 2016.

Can I access underneath the mounting pad to install a backing plate? Boat is currently wrapped so I cannot look at it.

It does not look like it from pictures I have.

Hello Andrew

How do I peak in and around that area as you have suggested, or access it to put a reinforce underneath? I can't see how this can be done.

What is the likely thickness of the fiberglass at this spot if I just go for a well nut mount?

Thanks,
Sean

Hello Sean,

I will have a look into it at the factory and report back. Please use my direct email andrewcustis@rangertugs.com and send me a note so I can forward photos if needed.

Thank you,

Hi Sean,
I just spoke to engineering and they suggest adding a 3" deck plate on the deck face to install your downrigger mounts.
