Hello:

I am new to Tug Nuts as I am seriously considering a Ranger Tug 27 or 29. Are there any subscribers from the New England area and specifically eastern Massachusetts?

Best regards,

Barry Cohen

Hi Barry, welcome to Tugnuts!

I keep my R 29 in Mystic CT. I believe there is a Ranger dealer in Salem MA, Winterhaven Marina.
There is also Wilde Yacht Sales in Essex CT.

Welcome Barry,
We have a brand new 21-EC....i know your looking at the larger tugs but if you have questions in general i would be glad to help. Our Tuglet is very sturdy, we are looking to go to Fischers Island from Old Saybrook Ct within the next few weeks and are very excited. Good luck, these are great boats. Wilde Yachts in Essex currently has a new 29 with a great reduced price (that's were we bought ours)

Barry, Hi. We recently purchased our R-25, TUGETHER from Winter Island Yacht Yard, owned by Peter and Diane Haywood. We keep it at Wickford Marina in Wickford, RI. I know of one other R-25 on Narragansett Bay. LONE RANGER. We're lovin' our Ranger Tug, as you will, also. Go see Peter. Kit and Ginny

Barry,
I have a 2010 R25 which I sail on Nantucket sound. It is my second Ranger Tug, the first being a 2008 R21EC which I traded in for the R25. The boat is great. I purchased it through Winter Island Yacht yard and they were great through the purchasing and commissioning service. They are always ready to answer my questions as I learn the boat.

Barry,

We also recently purchased a R25 from Peter and Diane Haywood at Winter Island Yacht Yard in Salem. We took delivery Memorial Day weekend, and now keep our boat in Scituate. They have an R29 in stock, and I'm sure they would take you out for a test ride. Their number is 978-745-3797.

Having a Ranger Tug in this area is quite an experience. Everywhere we go, people come up and ask about the boat and want a tour. We are totally satisfied with the boat.

Hi Tom:

Do you remember the guy who came aboard your boat in P-Town the weekend of the Blessing of the Fleet? That was me. It was "Indian Summer" that got me interested in Ranger Tugs. Please let me know if you are willing to discuss with my wife and I or even if we could visit you some weekend at Scituate.

Best,

Barry Cohen

Hi Barry,

I am in eastern MA, specifically Cotuit (between Falmouth and Hyannis) on Cape Cod. Just bought an R25 with the plan of keeping it in Florida (St. John's River) for the winter and using it in the Nantucket Sound for summers near home. Having spent a few months obsessing on Rangers, let me know if I can help in your decision making process. BTW I've met Peter Haywood of Winter Island in Salem and found him a pleasure to talk with. He has a used 2007 R25 in mint condition and, last I checked, he had both a R27 and R29 in stock.

Jerry, in subsequent posts, Barry described how he now has an R27. His profile was changed to indicate that. Things happen fast in the boating world!

I am also new to the forum and considering a Ranger 29. We saw one at the Trawler fest in Baltimore and were very impressed. We currently have a Grand banks 36 classic woodie that I am restoring and plan to sell once it is finished. All of my boating career (40+ years) I have had project boats. It is now time to buy something that doesn't need work (at first anyway). Baltimore was the first time I ran into a Ranger tug. I'd appreciate any comments -- both good and bad about the Ranger line of boats. Thanks

Welcome Barry and welcome Joe,
We Are the owners of a 2010 R-29 named Spirit of Gratitude. We took delivery of our boat back in March of this year. My wife and I spent a month cruising in the PNW breaking her in when we took delivery. Then we towed her back to Colorado.
I am one of the R-29 owners that trailers my boat. We keep our boat in Colorado for the summer and now it is in southern California for the winter. We just got done cruising southern Cal for the last five weeks. We have had our boat for nine months and now have 250 hours on her.
I want to be the first to tell you that we could not have found a better boat. We are so happy that we made the choice we did. Our boat has preformed very well during the 250 hours that we have put on her.
We tow our boat behind a 3/4 ton dodge diesel. The boat tows very well and I will tow her anywhere. We plan on doing Mexico next fall for the winter. We will tow her down to San Carlos which is around 5 to 6 hours south of Tucson Az.
Then we will have the sea of cortez to play in all winter.

The way that Ranger Tugs stands behind their boats has been very impressive. They are always willing to take my calls or emails if we have any question what so ever. It is so refreshing to deal with a boat manufacture that stands behind there product.
We have not had any major issues come up on the boat. There have been a couple of small things that were taken care of immediately. I think most of them were taken care of right over the phone.
Even know that I am quite sold on the R-29, and I love the space on board, I feel that all the ranger tugs are built very well. I just happen to have most of my time on a 29.
We have had our R-29 out in some very large seas. I again was very impressed on how well she traveled right on through the large seas. Never once did we ever felt unsafe.
We were in 10' waves a few weeks ago and my wife was also very impressed with how stable the R-29 is. She was also fighting the flu at the time. I am a very lucking guy that has a great wife/ copilot on board. She truly loves it!

So all I can say is that in my opinion you cannot go wrong with a Ranger tug. We will have our boat for many years and we will tow her, and boat all abound the the United States,Mexico, and Canada over the years to come.
We are so glad that Ranger tug started to build a trailerable yacht right at the time we were starting to look for a boat we could do this with.

Best of luck with your choice,
Stuart & Bridget

Captain Joe,
Welcome to TugNuts. I know what you mean about being tired of always fixing up your boat. I was in the same situation. My boat needed another 5 or 6 grand to get it back in the water. I was tired of putting more and more into an old boat just to get it into the water. So, instead I put the money into a new Ranger Tug and have been happy ever since. I recently retired and expect my new boat will last me the rest of my boating years. Now is the time we should be enjoying our boats, not fixing them.

If you look on "The World of Ranger Tugs" http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...86.171875&t=h&z=2&iwloc=00048f234a1a28faa7bde you will see there are many Ranger Tugs on the east coast. The map is not truely representative of all the Ranger Tugs on the east coast. For example, I am told there are approximately 40 Rangers on the Chesapeake Bay, but the map only shows 5 owners.

I have read just about all the entries on TugNuts, and the Ranger Tug section on http://www.c-brats.com/ and found it is very informative. You can tell the factory reads everything also because many of the mods owners have made are now seen in the new production boats. Ranger Tugs have many features that are standard in production that are extras on other boats. One thing you won't see on this site is a lot of complaints. That is because the boats are well made and use quality materials. Also, the factory rep, Andrew Custis, is johnny-on-the-spot with advice and fixes. Factory support is fantastic.

IMHO, you cannot go wrong with the Ranger Tug. Moving down from the Grand Banks to the R29 should be pretty easy for you. The R29 should be easier to handle and to care for, and with a trailer you do not have to pay dock fees if you don't want to. With a trailer you can be more flexible about the waters you can cruise.

Hope to see you on the water soon. I plan to cruise New York and Connecticut next year.

If any more of those Chesapeake Bay Rangers, or any other tug owners on the East coast, West Coast, or anywhere else in the world, would like to get on the map, just send me a PM with the details and location you'd like to have included.

Cheers,

Bruce
