Trying to quiet down water pump. Has flex hoses to it. Completely loosened pump and held it off the pad.
A lot of vibration as well. Has anyone replaced with a better pump@?

Following, our R25OB pump is noisy as well. I zip tied swim noodles to as much of the water lines as I could, it helped but still noisier then I’d like.

We had the same issue on our 2019 R27-OB.

I first replaced the OEM Jabsco pump with a Johnson variable flow 5 gpm pump... it was better. I then added a Johnson accumulator immediately down stream from pump and life was much better.

Doing it again I would first add the accumulator and evaluate the system. If it was still too noisy I would replace the pump.

I wish RT would sea-trial the water system at a quiet marina or anchorage at night. The original equipment is no different than running your generator.

On my C24 it had a noisy pump so I put better insulator or vibration damper under the pump and dampeners under hoses in certain places. I also made sure the system was bleed correctly and it only help a small amount. Believe it or not the biggest improvement that I came up with was to cover the whole pump assembly with a big cotton bath towel. It probably reduced the noise 40 percent and my wife was very happy. I also had another problem that just maybe could be causing your pump to be noisy. The pick up tube in my fresh water tank was to long and not angle cut and sealed it self to the bottom of the tank I believe that when my boat was new the pickup was maybe 1/8 off the bottom and in a couple years the top of the plastic tank sagged down and pushed the pickup tube to the bottom and the pump could no longer draw water which would make the pump work harder. I had to pull the tube out and angle cut it so it had 1/4 inch at the tip. We can still hear the pump run but it’s not bad and not worthy of replacing. I hope this helps.

I’m going with the towel cover. Would be easiest fix. I’ll update.

I replaced my factory pump because it was also too noisy. I got a variable speed pump (Johnson Aquajet Flowmaster 5.0), which has worked well and far less noisy than the factory pump. The factory pump is now a spare. gallery2.php?g2_itemId=73714

I think you did it right. The accumulator only allows the pump some place to push some 'extra' pressure so the pump doesn't have to cycle as often... It won't (or shouldn't, at least) make the pump any quieter when it's running.

This exact upgrade is one of the things on my list this season. If anyone knows of a quieter pump than the Johnson, please let me know! 😀

A big accumulator tank and some vibration isolation padding under it and under the pump helped my pumps noises subside. Also, pulled apart the factory pump to clean out all of the plastic pieces that got by the strainer, that made a big difference in sound from the pump itself. After all that I did get a new variable speed pump. But do be careful not to get one too large, it will cycle a bunch and in some cases with empty your tank very quickly, so I ended up buying another very similar to the factory one. Third pump was the charm...

All I had to do to quiet mine down was get the air out of the system.

I’m looking at adding an accumulator tank to the water system on our R25OB. The pump is a Jabsco Par-max 3.5 gpm with a stated psi of 40. What specific make and model have others installed, who have a similar pump as ours? Positives and negatives? Thanks for your thoughts.

I posted the original thread and advised I would publish my remedy. After trying towels, noodles, bleeding air out of the lines
Remounting I replaced the original pump.(Jabsco par-max 3.5) noisemaker.

Installed Seaflo 42 series anto demand diaphragm pump. Quiet, great pressure.
$68.00 Amazon.

Thanks for this! we may be following this path as well. you stated you re-cut the pickup tube, this issue from the factory concerns me. where did you access the pickup tube for the tank?

I did a variable speed pump and love it.

First: make sure that the strainer is not clogged. A clogged/partially blocked system will be noisier. I know this from esperience.

Second: they are loud. I added this jabsco accumulator so it cycles less often. Now we can sleep through the night w/out every cube of ice being made waking us up.

We just had the RT techs out to the boat, and they pulled the pickup tube and put two notches in it, on each side of the angle cut. No more pump cavitation and much smoother performance.

That being said, the pump could still use an accumulator tank.

That's a beauty of a pump! But I wonder if it would be much quieter? I can't find any specs on noise/vibration, as that will vary from boat to boat. However, in 'cheaper' pumps, the more GPM, the more noise. So maybe going from the Johnson 5.0gpm to this 6.9gpm (which is way more flow than I would need, with only one shower/lavatory and one kitchen, both at 2.0gpm measured) might be a tad of overkill?

The upside is with increased flow comes quicker flow to the large expansion tank, which will get you to the cutoff quicker, shortening the time the pump - even if slightly louder - will run. Could be a good tradeoff. 😀

I can't find a thread in which anyone has used a Marco pump... I'd be curious to hear how someone that has a Marco likes it.

A friend of mine has this exact Marco pump on his ‘67 42ft Chris craft commander. It’s whisper quiet… hence my desire to get it!

... could you post a picture of this (the notches)?

If we shower after sunset, other people come on their deck to look around worried someone's bilge pumps have gone into emergency mode.
