I know its like -5 degrees out there right now and I am missing the boat very much right now. We are starting to plan some of our summer trips and just wondering if there is any ideas of when the summer gathering will be this year and where.

At the 2012 Rendesvous, it was agreed upon that the 2013 Rendesvous would take place 22-25 August. The tentative location is Greenport. As I plan to sail down, I will have to get a more exact location once I thaw out. Hope to see you there.

It was discussed that it may be Brewers in Greenport, but that is not cast in stone yet. The dates are set though.

Thanks for th einfo. Just want to be sure to get the time off from work. Brewers over Mitchel Park?

Personally, Not that it should be a deciding factor, If we are at Brewers, we will be scattered around the marina depending on what is open for slips, Mitchell could probably put everyone pretty close together. Not to mention, brewers marina isnt nearly as nice as Mitchell Park. JMO

Yes, Carol & I were leaning towards Mitchell Park. It is right downtown and convenient to shopping. They said they will put us together. We can rent a tent and have it on the green for our gatherings and meetings. They have a good slip fee and the dockmaster seemed to be very accommodating. The only drawback is that the restrooms and showers are a little bit of a walk. Brewers is a bit of a distance from town and although they have a shuttle it stops at 6:00PM I also have my concerns as far as having us together and their facilities. Apparently there are two facilities for Brewers in Greenport. Carol and I did a recon after the Essex Rendezvous and we went to Brewers Stirling and this one is unacceptable. We did not realize that they also have a Brewers Yacht Yard and we did not go there. I asked Ellen for additional input on this and have not heard back from her. So in early spring Carol and I will revisit the pros and cons of each and decide from there. Active captain rates Mitchell Park as a 4 star and the Brewers as a 3 star, so there is an unbiased opinion. If anyone else has input feel free to share.

We have stayed at both brewers yards being that we stay at mystic brewers as our home port. Sterling is the nicer of the two. We have traveled with several boats to both and never been able to stay together. Always depends on available slips due to current slip holders leaving. The shuttle is nice, but as you said, does stop early. We stay at mitchell park a few times a year. The restrooms are a bit of a walk, but very nice and clean. The docks are floating very wide concrete and the stalff is top notch. I think the biggest draw back to mitchell park is the rolling during the day from the ferries. Not to terrible if you are on b or c dock, which is where we would end up most likely.

Yes, I have been at Mitchell Park also and we would be way in the back, which is good for the wave action from the ferries and better access to the restrooms/showers. It is negligible because it breaks up before even reaching the back. If Stirling is the nicer Brewers then it looks like we will lean towards Mitchell Park. Transients there are like redheaded stepchildren. Even though the facility is nice, the transients are across the channel and this requires an extensive walk to the facilities. It is not very conducive for a gathering.

Hello All,
The reservation for space has been made at Mitchell Park Marina located in the Town of Greenport on Long Island, NY. The Rendezvous will start with arrival on 08/22/13 with departure on 8/25/13. However, they have a deal, stay 3 nights and get the 4th night free. The free night does not include weekends. Each of you must make your advance reservations directly with the marina. Their phone number is 631-477-2200. This is prime boating season on Long Island and even though we have a slot for our event, we do not have a specified number of slips. It is recommended to make a reservation ASAP before slips are all taken. Specify that you are with the Ranger Tug Rendezvous. We do not have a specific agenda set yet, but it will be similar to our past events; pot luck dinner, formal dinner, raffle and prizes, presentations by Garmin as well as other marine related products, an afternoon cruise with a rafting for lunch and much more. I have contacted the South Hampton dealer, Dave Bofill, that sells Cutwater so hopefully we will also have some of our Cutwater counterparts also attending. Peter Haywood of Winter Island Yachts our Ranger Tug Dealer will also be attending. Ranger Tugs will also be providing some of our raffle prizes.
At our business meeting last year it was decided that the cost per person will be $125.00. This will include the formal dinner, cover event costs and seed money for the next event.

Carol Whittier and I are chairing the event. I will be coordinating everything with those who volunteer and Carol will be handling the fees for the event, coordination of attendees and catering.

We need volunteers to help with the following categories:
Goodie Bags & name tags
Presentations and presenters
Raffle prizes
Publicity
Those wanting to volunteer may contact me at mrizzo8743@aol.com. I will fill you in on the requirements and coordinate it with you.
Those trailering from the north and want to cruise to the event can launch their boat on the Connecticut River right by I-95, here is a link. http://ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2686&q=381770&deepNav_GID=1620. This is a great ramp and very secure to leave your rig. From there it is about 20 mile ride across the Long Island Sound to Greenport. In good weather and seas it is a great ride. There is also a ferry from New London to Orient Point, but I am not sure of the expense for a rig. And then there is always the ride around the Long Island Sound via roadways.

Looking forward to a fun event and hoping Mother Nature cooperates!

Hopefully there will be a great turn out.

I left a message with the Marina but did not get a return call yet.

They are pretty good about returning calls.

Just made our reservation for nights of 23 and 24 August. I am still thinking of going by water from Cape Cod, overnight about half way on the 22nd and arrive Mitchel Park on the 23rd. I hope I can interest others from here or north to join the voyage.
Carol and /or Mike; an idea for a presenter is the fellow who vends the PRISM / MIRAGE products. Sounds like at least a few of us have used the product.
Now if the rain and cold would stop and the slips go in, I would be very happy!

We will probably leave Narragansett Bay on 8/21 and spend the night at Block Island.
On 8/22 perhaps we can meet up with some other tugs and continue on to NY.

Brian,

The ride from Block going towards Long Island can be tough at times especially when getting near Montauk. Running along the Rhode Island shore and a diagonal run before Fisher's Island to Orient Point may be a better option especially if winds are not in your favor. I seem to remember that from Charlestown RI to Greenport winds up being around 30 miles or so.
