Just replaced the Gypsy on my 2009 Lewmar Pro 1000 Generation 2 windlass. Not too difficult, took about 45 minutes total.
But during the replacement I saw something which gave me pause.
There are two small (5mm x 10mm) steel dowel pins that rest between the Gypsy drive shaft and the Gypsy cup to keep the Gypsy spinning with the drive shaft. These two round pins are not stainless and mine looked to be significantly rusted and on their last legs. Without them the windlass is completely unusable.
To order them from Lewmar, you have to buy the 66000098 Clutch nut and cone kit for about $50 to $80 shipped. This kit includes a lot of parts that you don’t need just to get the two small dowel pins. The part I’m referring to is #43 on the diagram below.

After a long discussion with Lewmar tech support, with him looking through a lot of obsolete part and owners manuals, the tech agreed that a round stainless dowel pin measuring 5mm in diameter and 10 mmm in length was what was needed. I found a pack of 15 of these pins in 304 stainless at Walmart for $5.91 shipped.
If your doing annual maintenance on your Lewmar windlass, I’d recommend checking the condition of these pins.
