I recently purchased the Garmin FrontVu Panoptix transducer. Installation instructions state several things:
1. Must be vertical when underway (up to 8 knots).
2. Must be mounted 24" from other transducers.
3. Mounted directly in front of the first step.
4. Mounted at a location that is accessible inside.
5. Mounted close to center line.
6. Not in a location that can be jarred when launching.
7. Fairing block must be used to position transducer parallel to the surface.
8. Maximum angle of dead-rise is 20 degrees.
Anyone have experience mounting a thru hull transducer in this area of the boat?
Can the factory recommend a location and tell me the dead-rise at the point?
Thanks

Hello Rich,

Unfortunately we have not installed anything other than the factory installed one that was on the boat. I have installed many other types myself and always used an angle finder to determine the deadrise in the location I was after. I don't know if you can get to any other areas forward of the step but you might crawl into the mid cabin and remove the forward panels to see about getting to the hull bottom. It will be very hard to get to center line but I think it would work well in that area a little further outboard.

I would recommend someone that has done this before if you are going to spend the money on upgrading.

Hope it works out well!

Thanks, if I proceed I'll let you know how it works out.

did you ever proceed?

i saw a really ingenious transom mount where a lenco trim tab ram was used to raise and lower the transducer to an operable poaition when at fishing speeds.

The boat is already in the water so I'm going to wait until the off season.
