Are you attending the Rendezvous in Bremerton in September or thinking about it?

Friday's theme at the Rendezvous is about owners sharing ideas, lessons and information with each other in an open forum format. While Saturday's theme is workshops and presentations by vendors, on Friday we want to create opportunities on the dock, or in the conference room for topics that span a range of topics and attracts a wide span of interest.

The format is simple: 45 minutes for a topic, a volunteer facilitator starts the forum with a brief introduction or more and the participants take the conversation where they want to. There may be multiple topics happening at the same time with something for everyone. Informal, useful, and to-the-point is the intention.

This is the participation part of this thread: put you whims, wishes, contributions and ideas that you would like to see as a topic for this day of programming.

To spur your thinking, here are some ideas:

Velcro, snaps, and boxes; ideas of ways to use these for storage & fun
Baking on the BBQ; great food without an oven
Four knots (using rope) that every Ranger owner should master
Menu planning in 21-29 feet
Two weeks and two sacks of garbage, how is that possible?
Galley gear; what works and what gets left at home
Modifications that made my Ranger better
The best tools that I carry along
Living in the world of 12 volts
Internet and cell phone coverage: getting the biggest bang for the buck

45 minute presentations of great trips:
“Princess Louisa, Barkley Sound & the Broughton Islands”
“Sea of Cortez”
“Lake Powell”
“North of Cape Caution”
“South Sound”
“Favorite Puget Sound stops”
“Gulf Islands”
“Victoria, Sidney, and points north”

So, now add your wisdom and thoughts. We need facilitators for topics and this does NOT mean that you have to be a master public speaker or have a professional PowerPoint show. Rather, it means that you are willing to start a conversation with a group of great people who are interested.

What next? In a week or so, I will take all these ideas and craft a survey using an on-line tool and post it here. The results of the survey will point the way to go.

OK, now start posting ideas, whims, thoughts, gifts and needs.

Karma's Crew, I know you have an idea, what is it?

John & Laurie,

As a newbie these are all great !!! I would attend each one, a couple of them twice if I could.

I agree that a practical radar session would also be interesting.

Enology on a Ranger would be delightful.

Maureen and I study Enology every afternoon on Karma...... and if for some reason we are not on board, we study it where ever we happen to be.......

Glad to know that Willie and I are part of such a studious group of Tug Owners.

I think it would be more wino's than anything........ Don't forget the corkscrew!!!!!! I hate using my shoe to open a bottle of wine. Takes too much effort!

As I always tell Willie "A house (boat) is not a home without our Parrot."

Willie's Tug is enjoying our morning at Ladysmith, BC.

I got me one of those fancy new "Rabbit" corksrew thingamabobs...... Those "parrots" are just too much work.....

You will have to demo that Rabbit for us at Bremerton. Maybe we can have a cork pulling race as one of our activities.

Herb,
I would be more than happy to give you a demonstration..... you know though, once we break the seal on the bottle, we have to drink the contents....... I'm not sure that a cork pulling contest would be a good idea. We would once again have to drink everything that has the seal broke...... could be ugly..... very ugly......

Ditto for the "radar session". I did post this suggestion elsewhere if I recall. 🙂

How about lessons learned in power (battery) management while not connected to shore power, including use of solar, inverters, etc.

Cheers,

Bruce

p.s. we haven't learned much 😉

Ditto -- good suggestions IMO for learning more.... 🙂 😉

As new tuggers, we love all of the topics listed. I especially like everything associated with the galley from planning to meal prep. We have a magma grill that is not yet installed and are eager to learn to use it and expand our cooking options, learning to bake on it would be great. Dan is suggesting a discussion of "maintenance 101" covering everything from mechanics to cleaning. In other words, any topic is good for us newbies! thanks for putting together a great program!

Hi Linda,
Thom and I are planning on coming to the Rendezvous Friday thru Sun. (change to Thursday )
I downloaded the registration and will mail it in tomorrow.
Thanks,
Lorry

We have ideas and now we need coordinators and starters (not formal presenters).

Maintenance 101 is a great idea! Wine on the Water is sure thing!

What we know is this:
Jim and Lisa from Kismet will have 1pm to 3pm in the hotel conference room for their wonderful presentation on doing the Great Circle Loop

I will lead three forums, back to back, on the dock by our boat (so bring your deck chairs). Because I am also the "Dockmaster" I will be looking for help to assume that role to help owners who are arriving on Friday.

I am waiting for confirmation from some owners on other topics. I am hoping for multiple forums of differing topics where some can happen at the same time as others.

This event will likely have over 100 people attending! Vendors are asking for time & space, things are being donated, events are coming together. Get ready for a grand event!

Friday's Owner's Forums are shaping up:

"The best tools that I carry"
"Galley & Menu Planning with my favorite recipes"
Modifications that made my Ranger better"
"Trailering on Route 66" a multimedia program
"Exterior Hull & Cabin Maintenance"
"Highlights of Princess Louisa, Barkley Sound & the Broughton Islands" a multimedia program
"Cruising the Great Circle Loop" a multimedia program
"Wine on the Water"

On Saturday:
"Dealing with Fox"

Thank you to Jim & Lisa of Kismet, David & Maureen Baker of Karma, Tina of the Christina Bee, Captain Mac of Island Ranger, and Rich & Cheryl Ordahl

So far, so good. Let's have a more-I need a group leader to only start a conversation, not a formal presentation. Post it here or send me a PM

Christina Bee's crew will also offer two forums: "Cruising the Sea of Cortez" and "Launching & Boating on the Gulf Coast and Florida"

Two program corrections:
Captain Mac's forum is "Dealing with Fog" (not fox, though it could be an interesting story)
Rich & Cheryl's forum is "Trailering and Boating on Route 66."

What lessons or offerings do you have that other owners would to hear and contribute? That is what a forum is all about, a launching place to share highlights and lessons that can benefit nearly anyone.

I WOULD IMAGINE THIS HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION, BUT I WLL THROW IT OUT THERE ANYWAY--- NAME TAGS WITH THE OWNERS BOAT NAME UNDEDRNEATH :?:

Steve

We are on it with the name tags - fear not!!!
