Below is the list of those that have said they will be joining us on the cruise to Desolation. I have also as to where you have said you will join up with the group. If any of this information is incorrect, please let me know. If I do not have a point listed as where you plan to join with the group, please let me know. OK -- after reading some tips here about necessary features and items to have onboard I decided today to install a stern tie facility and equip our boat with an additional 15 gals of fresh water. The stern tie installation description is posted separately at http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1280. I tore off to the local WalMart and picked 3x 5gal Coleman collapsable water jugs and installed them filled up with filtered water onto to foredeck. They are clear jugs so they aren't that too conspicuous. 😉

Geeesh, I feel I'm setting off for a wild ride....

Barry,
Nice Job!

Sunny and Fernando,
See you in Poet's!

David
When you state cruise speed 15kts is this a GPS value?

Panic time: Having cruised Desolation Sound for the last 20 years I know it quite well also made the trip from John Wayne marine many times to Campbell River. I always sailed thru the Golf Islands thru Dood narrows to Nanaimo from there across the shorter distance to the east side of Texada island and North. As for supplies you will find it all around Desolation Sound
liquor groceries fuel and water you can get in Lund, Refuge Cove, and Gorge Harbor there is lots of Lakes Streams and water fall in the area with clean fresh water as well. So relax it all here in friendly Canada, looking forward to see you all.

PS. Pardon my language I,m Danish

Barry,
That would be correct. Now, if you are running at very high RPM's (which you should not be) let me know and we will back off a bit.

Ooooops !...some bad tide info in my posting a few days ago....looks as though you will actually be on a 4 foot low mid morning when you transit the Pender Canal....."up and at er" early for a bit more H20 under the rudder Saturday morning !
The flip side of this is more H20 under the rudder when you come thru Shoal Channel !
Sorry about the previous info...was not looking far enough ahead !

Tim and fellow Points North Cruisers,
Right now the plan is to be at Porlier Pass at 8:45 am which is slack. This means a 6:45 start from Poets. We must make slack water at this pass......

Harbor Ranger for which you already arranged I believe will need a 25' slip in Gibson. Our son, Chris and wife, Willow will be accompaning us in their 28' Harbor Cruiser (non-Ranger Tug). They will need space also. Chris is allergic to shellfish, but he will have ample amounts of food. Thank you so much for all your help and hospitality. We are looking forward to seeing you and your lovely area. Gary and Rosalie

High RPMs = 3800+ for me.

During initial sea trial of our R25 with 4 people onboard and maybe half full fuel tank and with little luggage etc the WOT speed (some 3800-4000 RPMs) registered at around 19 kts if I recall. We have the 150hp Yanmar.

Ahhh, internet service. We're here in Lagoon Cove hiding from the high winds and foggy weather. Think, that is 'think' we'll venture out and get down to Forward Bay to wait out for a window to head south in the straights. Desolation is getting the good weather now and the Broughton's are not. We're having the time of our lives.. love EVERY minute of it. No problems, just weather that we can't control.... Things will get a little rocky out there today but I do like water over the bow, makes life exciting.

Running with the tide really does make a difference.. be sure to ask Lyman about his white water experience.

Anne Cox of Sea Coaster will be joining the group to Desolation Sound. She has a 22 ft. C-Dory. We are going to meet her at Stuart Island Wednesday and she will tag along with us to Poet's Cove and onward to Gibson and Desolation Sound.

She will need a reservation at Gibsons Marina. Kim and Tim, can you make a reservation for her? Many thanks for your help. 🙂

I'm all over it !

I've decided to catch a pile of coho salmon 8/19-22, so I won't be joining Ranger Armada on the 20th.

My plan is to get home on the 22nd, then drive to Lund, B.C. two days later. I'll provision there and then head up for Desolation Sound, hooking up with the Ranger crew there.

By the way, for those who knew her, my wonderful black lab, Dixie, died in her sleep last week. Gonna really miss my Dixie Chick. She was the best dog a lad could ever have.

What's best to use in Canada? Cash and/or CC ?

Darn -

First time in forever since I logged in, and I discover we just missed Zuma! We are currently at Blind Channel since the weather finally cleared today to run Johnstone Stait. We were in Port Harvey last night, Shawl Bay the night before, Kwatsi Bay before that - waiting for the gales to dies down. We'll be in Desolation Sound tomorrow, then run down Georgia Strait & over to Ganges by next weekend - when you all are taking off!

Not sure if we will succeed in crossing paths with the Points North cruise, but we'll keep looking. We've been underway 77 days so far- made it to Tracy Arm/Endicott Arm and the many glaciers in Alaska, and ran out to Sitka as well. It's been a wonderful trip, and it continues even better now that we see the sun! Looks like we'll get really close to passing 10,000 miles total on Island Ranger by the time we get home.

Mac & Linda
and Charlie, Porche and Obe too!

JtheK --- We are deeply saddened to hear about Dixie. She was pure love. Stepdaughter Mary and I are honored to have rescued her and given her these few extra months. We will miss her too. --- Cary

JtheK, Kim and I are also sad to hear about Dixie....she sure was a sweet girl !
See you on the Sunshine Coast.
By the way, not alot of "provisioning" options in Lund...you will want to load up in Powel River or Gibsons!
Safe journey!

Kim and Tim

Mac and Linda.... darn, sorry to have missed you. We were probably just one day ahead of you. Incredibly mirror calm Straits on Thursday and Friday.. isn't it incredible that it can change so quickly?

Points North Crews.... it's 80 plus up here now, the skies are clear and the water 'warm'. Hurry up we wanna play!!!!
