Hi I am new to this ,Checking in to an R31. Any one have a 31? And I would like to know how it is to tow ? Launch ect....Thanks in advance....

Will,
My wife and I have a 31CB. We keep her at Delta Marina in Rio Vista. Emmy Lou was trailered from Anacortes and launched with no issues. PM me if I can help you more.

Hi Will-
We have an R31CB and have just purchased a trailer and began towing it. We got our trailer through Ranger Tugs and it was set up and ready to go when we got it, which is a huge labor savings (you will know what I am talking about if you have ever had to adjust bunks on a trailer at the boat ramp).
We have a Chevy Silverado extra-cab Longbed 1 Ton pickup to tow with (Diesel). It tows like a dream, although we are riduculously long for city streets, on the highway it is surprisingly easy. We recently brought it to Oregon from Washington.
We generally get around 18 miles per gallon on the highway in normal driving, but towing the boat we got 8.8 MPG. Launching and retrieval is detailed in a Ranget Tug Video on you-tube. They launch an R29 (old version) which is essentially the same as an R31.
All in all, I am super happy we got the trailer and very happy with the way it tows. With the taper of the boat hull we did not need special mirrors to see behind us.
We left the dinghy on (with two extra safety ties on it) and it went down the road just fine.
I can take photos of ours on the trailer if you would like. I also have a video I intend to post of a walk-around of our boat while on the trailer so people can see what it looks like.

We have a 31CB. We did not get a trailer. The dealer trailered it 200 miles to a launch near us without problems. The dealer has a large diesel truck. The also launched and recovered for the sea trial, and the dealer salesman did it himself, experience counts.

We took delivery of an R31S in August from Long Beach Yacht. Great people wonderful dealer. We did sea trials going to Catalina Island, Avalon and Two Harbors, all set up by Ray and Jan Jones LBYS. Then back to Marina at long beach, they pulled the tug and shipped it here to New Mexico. On a Ranger E-Z Loader, you want a bunk style trailer for sure, an expensive aluminum trailer but it fits the boat like a T. I have an F-350 dual wheel diesel 4X4 probably over kill, It works great to get out of my shed and back yard. 12 mpg loaded or empty. Mountain roads to Navaho Lake Colorado/ New Mexico boarder. The high mountain lakes needed a 19x19 prop to achieve full RPMs were talking 6,600' above sea level. The new prop did the trick and I have the original one when I come back to sea level. Lake Powell in May when water comes up only 2,300' above sea level then truck to Bellingham Washington in July-August. 🙂 My wife is the Pilot I am the captain we have radios to help us load and unload, something we worked on at local lake Abiquiu 10 min from house. Working on getting out of this job so we can enjoy Tugnutting full time

Have any of you had the trailer/boat combination weighed? What did the trailer cost through Ranger Tugs if you don't mind me asking? Thanks.

Tom

An aluminum triple axle E-ZLoader trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes is shown on Ranger Tugs "Build a Boat" link as priced at $15,600 MSRP.

interestingly enough the weight of the diesel in the 146gal tank affects the weight a lot. At LBYS you get a tankful with the sale and that pushed the R31S over weight coming thru Arizona. I have not weighed them but I believe with 1/2 a tank the R31S weighs 17,000 LBS.
