Hello All,
I have reviewed several postings about replacing the stock Dual radio with a JBL. Has anyone come up with other alternatives?

I do prefer the square form factor over the round one, the sound quality is better and it puts out more power. The menu system is easier to navigate too.

The RF PMX-2 does get good reviews. They also have the PMX-3. Does the head stick out far from the dash? The specs say 1.3 inches which seems a lot.

I upgraded the speakers to Klipsch HS1's which sound much better.

+1 for replacement!!! Dual = PIA/POS!

Does the Rockford have a noisy fan like the stock Dual?
 
Based on on the current cutout of my Dual MGH37BT, I don't think the RF PMX will fit in that location. I have the same dash config as ElvinRay. The width would be ok, it's the rectangular shape and the top left corner of the dash...Moving it to the right or down could work if I could still cover the original circle cut out...

I never listen to FM/WB using the Dual. I'm either using BT or the USB port to stream music from my Ipad or Iphone. So now, I am looking at the Pyle Bluetooth Amplifier Audio Controller. It has BT and USB input plus a 3.5mm aux. Everything I need and use plus more power (4x35 or 4x75 based on ohms), and it will fit in current Dual gauge cutout.

Hi Simonp,

Can you tell me it the Rockford has an internal fan that is audible? My second biggest complaint with the Dual is the fan noise.

After extensive research, I ended up ordering the Garmin Fusion MS-BB100 (Black Box). Great reviews and it fully integrates with the Garmin GPSMap and is NMEA2000. Will post pictures once installed.

I’m excited to see your pics. The remote looks smaller than a standard gauge. Love the NMEA2000 integration, though.

TwoFootitis, I haven't heard any fan noise from the unit, pretty sure there isn't one, would drive me crazy too.

The cutout should be 3" for the Dual MGH37BT, the diameter of the Fusion remote is 2.56". I ordered 1/8" x 3.5" Flat Black gauge cover and will mount the Fusion remote onto the cover overtop the existing cutout. Should only have 1/2" of the cover showing. Will post pics once I get it installed in a few weeks..
 
I installed the black box today. The original cutout was bigger, so I made a trim piece out of plexiglass and covered it with leather furniture tape (pretty good match). Install took about 2 hrs with all of the re-wiring. I am very impressed both with the simple helm control/fusion-link app and Garmin integration through NMEA. System sounds great and is very easy to use.
