I just finished a galley modification for my R23. I have a shelf behind the sink and stove. The rack holds plates, bowls, cups, coffee press and coffee pot, and spices, plus other things.

I wanted to keep the counter as clear as possible but have access to all my kitchen things. It took me a long time to come up with this design. I had to make templates for templates because each piece was a custom fit, and didn't want to waste good wood or drill more holes than needed.

The wood used is Padauk and Maple. Ship n' Shore oil.

My next modification is to put drawers into the cabinet.

Hamster,
very nice, thanks for the information.

Well done!
Looks like I have another project.
If your interested, in my gallery I have some pics of drawers that I added to my 23 galley.

Nice! What's the white thing with the black rack next to the sink?

Tony & Kathy - the white thing is a utensil tray that has rubber feet under it, keeping it in place even in rocky seas or trailering. The black thing is a small dish rack I found on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Umbra-Sinkin-Min ... 01I58U0T4/) that fits in the sink or into that tray.

Very nice! Would you be willing to sell templates so I could make my own?

dsherburn - I can't get you a template without taking it all apart. I have added a few more pictures I took during construction to give you a better sense of how it was built. The first photo in the Galley Modification folder has some dimensions in the notes, too.

This photo - gallery2.php?g2_itemId=71561 - gives you a better idea of how the legs, shelf and cross brace are built while under construction in the shop. The top shelf is 4 3/4" wide. The legs are 5 7/8" at the bottom and taper to the slope of the boat sides at 7 degrees. The legs are on different surfaces; the teak around the stove is about 1/4" below the fiberglass, so the legs in that part of the shelf are cut with a notch. The stern end of the galley is sloped at 12 degrees - the same, I believe, as the porthole stack. You can see some of the attachment points in this photo -- gallery2.php?g2_itemId=71564.

I finally took the boat out for a spin this past weekend and it all performed well, except that the plate rack results in the plates tipping. I'm going to add another feature to keep them nice and upright!

If you decide to build this and run into a challenge, feel free to PM me.

Put me on the list if anybody starts making these. I’m def not a woodworker :?
