Hi, my buddy, who has a Grady White with a 250hp Yamaha, drove my R23 the other day. He says my motor doesn’t have the same range of motion as his does. In other words, at full port or starboard steering wheel lock his motor points further to port or starboard - which affects maneuverability - particularly when docking.

Looking at my boat, the steering mechanism on the motor has two pivot points on the “lever”. Mine is attached to the inner, short portion of the arm. It would seem that moving the attachment point to the outer position would give more motor rotation for the same amount of steering wheel rotation.

Before I change anything, is there reason that the inner attachment point is used?

Could you please provide some pictures?

Here's a picture of the linkage

Thank you for the picture. That is how it is supposed to be set up. That attachment has a bolt below it which would interfere with the ram when turning.
