Removal of radar mast supports

I’ve seen pictures of Cutwater 30 CB without the radar mast supports attached to the side-front of the aft seat. Is this advisable? I’d like to remove (modify) them to make room for storage over the aft seat.

Hi there,

No, unfortunately that's not advisable. That aft strut supports a good amount of weight, and even though it is supported by two shocks, it's still needed for stability. Hope this helps, but let us know if you have any additional questions.

Not sure we are on the same page…. I’m thinking about changing the forward struts, not the aft strut, as there are already 2 other struts slighter forward from center (attached to the back of the aft seat). In fact, how about moving the port forward strut to the aft (similar to the existing aft strut on the starboard side) and removing the remaining forward strut. Resulting in 4 struts instead of 5?

I see now. You could remove those two struts. They are there to assist in getting the mast set up and taken down, making it possible for a single person to do this. You just need to keep that in mind if you plan on taking the mast down on any kind of regular basis. It really does make a big difference.

Just remember what you're getting yourself into if the mast needs to come down without those struts. It's heavy! 😎

I take it down when I winterize it. I will definitely have a helper (other than my wife)! To be sure we are on same page, I am referring to the 2 stainless steel poles that attach to the front of the aft seat on the command bridge, not the compression struts underneath.
