I noticed I had some water in the cave area on my 31 that appears to be coming from one or both of the opening Jim Black windows in there. I found that the latches don't provide much compression on the window seal when locked. I removed one of the latches and noticed a clear plastic insert that appears to be instrumental in applying compression to that window seal, which is worn. Does anyone know if these clear inserts are replaceable? Thanks.

do you have a photo? lack of compression sounds more to me like you need a new frame gasket around those port lights. You can buy the gasket material from great lakes skipper.

Dbsea, I do have photos but I’m new to Tugnuts and haven’t figured out how to post them. Too bad they just can’t be imbedded in the post without a link.

Watson1987, that’s a good thought about trying a different latch. Have you tried these?

I have not tried them. I need to take a closer look when I'm on the boat next how the latch works. It hasn't been a priority.

Last I touched them I just took a screw driver and really match sure the latches were tight so they wouldn't swing down on their own.

I have noticed the latches on our 2019 31CB are loose and it does not take much to unlatch when placing something in the cave and then may have a leak.

We never open these windows so would actually consider a more permanent closure that needs a wrench or other method to open if and when needed.

I have added checks of the latches to our pre departure check list.

The seals are leaking a little on my hatches as well, I'm going to try a rubber seal emulsifier. I've used it in the past on a car door seal with good results. At the time I remember purchasing it at the local GM dealer. I don`t know if they carry it anymore but I`m thinking an auto parts store should carry it. We`ll see what happens. Another option may be to 3D print some new latches with a little more bite..

Thanks for all the ideas. As a temporary fix (or at least a little improvement) I cut some short pieces of wire tie and closed the latches on them to take up some space where the latch rides when it is closed. Not pretty but it may help compress the seal more. I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be many spare parts available for this window assembly.
