Let me know how it goes. I know most of this thread is focused on outboards, but I'd be interested in any improvements for an inboard (I have the Volvo D4 320 on a R29-CB).

I did not realize Sharrow was making props for inboards, is this a stainless steel prop? Do you have any links or further information regarding inboard props? I answered my own question, with a little googling. Did they give you a lead time?

I’m excited too. I think it will improve speed at same rpm more than anything.
 
This is a very helpful thread. Thanks all. @Submariner would the "modified" version be well-tuned for the R25 250 - when you say, "available soon" is there an ETA? @emtlibby do you have more stats to share? We just finished the Triangle Loop and would have loved a better prop.

Well, I have some odd behavior to share.

The boat seems to be very sea state, load, weight, or trim dependent now to work well.

Some days the 5 blade prop is awesome. Quiet, and I've found my sweet spot is to set fuel flow at 18GPH. That will give me 4700 RPM, and about 27 knots, at about 1.6MPG. Which is an improvement. That said, sometimes, Ill set the same fuel flow, get 4900-5000 RPM, everything is louder, and about 21 knots at about 1.3MPG. I honestly can't figure out what makes the difference. I;ve tried all kinds of trim settings, moving people around the boat etc. It seems that perhaps tanks half full, and someone sitting in the back, makes it happen. But literally the boat will just "hook up" and run awesome, and sometimes it wont. The prop is not spun. When it hooks up, the bow does fall a tad. I think maybe my outboard is too high and I need to drop it one? But maybe it's too low.

So that said, I loved it out of the box, but now I have this weird thing. I;ll say too when it happens, not hooked up, it falls off plane quicker too..
 
I should mention, either way, working well or not, the cavitation plate appears to be dry, just at the top, or getting splashed a little....

I returned my Sharrow Props and now am also working with PowerTech and have installed OFS 5 Blade 17s. Initial results are encouraging.

When my boat is half full of gas, it runs considerably better than full which is logical given that 150g weighs about 900 lbs., all in the aft section.

@Rocky Lou and @Submariner I placed a call today to Power Tech - we'll see what they say. In my RT25 OB I'm looking for improvements in all three three zones. Low, Mid and High. Keeping my fingers crossed.
 
We just got back from the Fluid Motion Rendezvous.
Prop stat's are one thing when tested in ideal conditions. But I want to know what to expect for a long trip with wind and current. Sometimes I'm going with it, other times against it, and sometimes I'm cutting across it. We also loaded the boat a little heavier than a normal weekend outing.

Here's some stat's that I saw, which are subject to wind and tides, normal conditions for us out on the water.
I included a map showing our actual course for the travel days to and from Roche Harbor which also shows Lopez Pass to Deception that I talked about during the presentation I gave at Roche Harbor. I'm using Sensar Marine for tracking of Channel Surfing, time spent traveling and top speed (WOT).

These stats are with the SCE5 modified (5 blade) prop I'm testing.

Everett to Roche to Everett (round trip)
104.0 gallons and 137nm (157.8 miles at 1.52mpg avg)

Everett to Roche
Sept. 3, 2024, left the dock at 5pm. Spent the night in Cornet Bay. Left at 6:30am the next morning.
53.6 gallons and 69.1nm (79.5 miles at 1.48mpg avg)
4 hours 44minutes, Top speed of 34.87
(From Deception Pass, to Lopez Pass, to Deer Harbor was spent at 7 knots in the fog)

Roche to Everett
Sept 8, 2024, left the dock at 10:00am
50.4 gallons and 67.9 nm (78.6 miles) (1.56mpg avg)
3 hours 19 minutes. Top speed of 36.88mph.

I have screen shots of the Yamaha gauge showing 1.39mpg and 1.67mpg when I divide mph/gph.

How loaded was the boat at the start of the trips? Full gas? Full water? Looking forward to the props being available 🙂

Mostly full tank of gas (134 gallons), full water tank (40 gallon), waste water tank 1/2 full (15 gallons). LaZina loaded the boat with 3 large totes of Channel Surfing merchandise to sell at the Artisan Fair at the Rendezvous. Plus food, clothes, etc...

Return trip was 1/2 tank a gas, 3/4 tank of water, waste water tank 1/4 full. The totes of Channel Surfing merch were lighter.

Great report...now setting aside the stats....how did the prop "feel' to you at the helm?

It feels great. Easy to turn at all speeds, even in the mid range doing 12mph. I don't have power steering either.

Thanks for the reply. If you had to guess....and everything with a prop is an educated guess until you turn it.....so to guess, if a PowerTech 4 blade 15 pitch was a nice upgrade from a Yamaha SWS 3 blade 16P.......do you think I might find another level of upgrade with PowerTech 5 blade? Maybe 15 pitch?

I'm running a 5 blade PowerTech prop. I won't be going back to my OFS4 PowerTech prop. I'm just waiting on PowerTech to release this prop for sale as I'm running around with a prototype currently.

thanks again for the info....I'll consider that a tacit endorsement of me moving to the 5 blade...or at least giving it a try. What was the size and pitch of your four blade...and what is size and pitch of the 5 you like? (pardon me if that is listed above in an earlier post...
 
To add another choice to the mix, I had initially swapped out our 2022 R27OB F300 SWSII 15.75x15P to a Turning Point Mach4 Express dual geometry 15.5x15P prop. It has great reverse, slow speed, mid speed, but WOT was limited to 5200-5300rpm, below the desired minimum of 5600rpm. It would consistently provide 1.9mpg at 4700-4800rpm.
I then learned that Turning Point tends to under advertise pitch, as does Suzuki, so their props appear to run faster than others.
I then tried a Power Tech OFS4 in 15.25x14P which had excessive slip and ran at much lower mph. It was very smooth and responsive but horrible mpg!
I sold both of those props after installing a Turning Point Mach3 OS 16x13P.
I now have 600-6k available rpm range, great low speed manners, both fwd and reverse, over 2.0mpg when <3k rpm and over 3.0mpg when <1500rpm. My best "fast" cruise is around 5k at 1.7mpg and my WOT 5900 rpm netted 37mph 1.38mpg.
The calculated slip numbers are the lowest of all previous props.
The mpg is down from the mach4 numbers but the performance is equal, if not better, as the torque steer is less. I believe this prop is also under advertised on pitch as it acts much closer to a 14P or even 14.5P. This prop has very close performance to the highly regarded Mercury Enertia ECO Xp series, but it's lowest available pitch is 16.5P. It's also 50% cheaper the than the Merc's frequently used when re-propping twins.
