Can someone at the factory help me with this? I need to know where and how can I access the remote receiver; the one which 'talks to' the hand held remote control that came with the Side-Power Bow and Stern Thruster system. When I follow the procedure in the Side-Power booklet, the light in the remote blinks but there is no thruster action. The main panel with the joysticks works fine. I'm thinking that maybe the remote receiver power or signal connection is not good or maybe the system needs to go through the remote control connection procedure as outlined in the booklet. In either case I'll need to get my hands and eyes on the remote receiver. Thanks! (I tried to post this earlier and it ended up in the Ranger factory forum)

The 29 has a rocker switch on the helm that must be ON to activate the remote.

Remember to push both "on" buttons on the remote at the same time just like the console. Ya, I know, that one got me in Andrews stupid book.

Thanks for the good advice. jroyle solved my immediate problem, because as it turns out the left of the 2 accessory rocker switches (I'll call it 'Accessory 1') must be on for the remote to work - I found no mention of that in the documentation so I added it. Thanks, j. And Longbranch Louie, you are correct as well and I thank you for the help. I now have the option to dock the boat from outside at the aft helm station which is where I prefer to be in most circumstances! Just the same, I would still like to know where the remote receiver is hidden, so I could add it to my notes.

(I'm not finished with remote controls, yet, though. The Marinco spotlight came with a remote that is non-functioning at the moment. I will be purchasing a replacement battery today and hopefully that will solve it.)

Marinco spotlight problem was fixed with a replacement battery, fwiw.

I am reviving this old thread as I have a question. I bought my 2014 RT 29 used a year ago and have never used the remote. I am not sure without reading this thread I would have known how to activate it. My question is in what circumstance do you use the remote or find it useful?

I definitely use the remote when single-handing, but beyond that don't use it too much.

+1 I find the remote useful for two things: single handing from the cockpit, and for walking around the boat and testing the thrusters while docked.

The remote for the side thrusters is handy if you are single-handing. You can pull up to a dock, step off with the stern dock line in hand and tie up the stern. Use the bow thruster to bring the bow back to the dock so you can grab the bow dockline to tie up. Also good for controlling the boat when un-tieing docklines before leaving the dock in certain wind and/or current situations.

I bought my

R29 used and cannot find a manual for the thrusters. I have pushed both buttons on the remote, while having the thrusters on but not sure what the rocker switch is or where it is located.

If it’s the same as mine it will be below and right of the wheel. Second rocker from the right I think.

Cheers
