Hi,

Bought my 2014 Cutwater 26 new last August. Enjoying it so far. But there are some issues. The spring connecting the TV mount to the bulkhead bends in when returning the TV to its original position and obviously needs to straighten or extend when rotating the TV towards the helm area. The problem is that it's a conventional spring that doesn't have a normal rotation point or center bend. When returning the TV to its original position you need to remember to push the central portion of the spring inwards to ensure that the TV mount is secured properly. Just recently, when attempting to place the TV back against the bulkhead facing the v berth, I forgot to push the spring's center point in to collapse it. Thus, the spring bent outwards causing torque that broke lose one half of the upper hinge pulling both screws out and splintering some of the wood. Frankly, I never like this design feature and figured it was only a matter of time before something failed. A piano hinge coupled with something other than that spring, like two rods rotating about a center point, would seem to be more appropriate. Meanwhile, I'm left to fix the thing, or, under the circumstances, is this something I should be looking to the dealer or factory for? The boat owner shouldn't need to remember to have to collapse the spring every time the TV is returned to its normal position. Would appreciate a response from the factory.

Also, the ceiling fabric above the helm is coming loose. I tried to tuck it back in, but that won't hold. Need direction on this as well.

Thank you

Larry

Hello Larry,

Thanks for the email. The first step would be to contact the dealer you purchased the boat from and they will be able to assist. The spring holding the TV portion would not be considered a warranty item but I'm happy to send parts if needed to repair. Should be a relatively simple fix. The headliner coming down should also be somewhat easy but please contact your dealer so they take the next steps to get you taken care of. Thank you.

Thanks Andrew. I'll do that, of course. But I'd really appreciate the company investigating the problem. Appears to be a genuine design flaw and should be addressed to devise an improved rotatable connection that is considerably more substantial and operates accordingly. My opinion, of course, but I would think the company invites that sort of feedback.

Curious to know if the bracket used on our 2012 R27 is different then what was used on your C28? I ask as we've not had any problem with our bracket and it has been used a great deal in 4 1/2 years. If not the same this could be a solution, if it will fit the C28.

Jim,

Mine is a C26. Does your R27 use a spring to connect the TV mount to the bulkhead and an upper and lower approx. 21/2" hinge to further support the TV when it rotates? Interested to know what the other boats are using for this purpose.

Thanks.

Larry

Sorry Larry, our boat is in one place and we are in another otherwise I'd take a look, maybe others can?

Jim

Larry,

We have an R27 and the TV bracket mounts to the ceiling headliner. From your description yours sounds like a different bracket.

Curt

Thanks Jim. And it would appear so Curt. But thanks for responding.

When I looked at pictures on line , it appears this mount is basically a cupboard door with the TV mounted to it. I am guessing the spring is behind the door. If this is the mount I would change the hinges to one long piano hinge for sure. Much stronger and will hopefully cove any damage from the old ones being puled out
