Strange electrical event!

When I switched the aft bilge pump on with the panel switch, the Garmin displays also came on! Battery switches were all in the off position. I understand that the bilge pumps are wired to be energized all the time. There must be a crossed wire somewhere. Our CB30 is a 2017 and yesterday was the first time this happened.

Our boat has the start issue that several others have reported. After a run of an hour or two, hot restart requires the start battery be paralleled. Seems like there are several solutions out there ranging from replacing connectors to battery replacement. Seems like our boats have electrical gremlins that haunt us!

Not sure but I have a theory. The sensor for automatic operation of the bilge pump is tied directly to the battery via a fuse. The panel switch gets its power from the 12volt fuse block behind or near the dash. If the bilge pump were already powered via the sensor and the panel switch activated the battery voltage would be routed to the 12volt fuse block and the other items on that block would be powered as long as the switch was depressed. This would not occur however unless the bilge pump sensor was closed at the same time you pushed the panel switch.

Just a thought.

That’s a great theory! The pump would have been energized and would back feed on the manual switch line. I had flipped the manual switch because it sounded like the pump was running but not pumping much water. I think the auto switch is stuck on. Will check it today.

Could the circuit be getting back fed by a bad ground somewhere?
