We took our r23 to Tofino BC. Stayed at Tofino resort and marina, showers coffee and ice were all included with mooreage, how often does that happen. what a great experience. The marina staff were so helpful, Colby the doc tender would see us coming in and would run too our slip to help doc the boat. We got there on Friday Aug 3rd late on the 4th we took the 10 minute walk to town. We picked up a few things at the grocery store and then stopped at the local tackle store. They let us know what was working and we bought 2 green and white coyote spoons. Got back to the boat and the resort guide stepped abouts and put a waypoint on our GPS on where to start trolling, he said follow the 100 ft line and set the downright at 70ft. After a 20 minute boat ride to the waypoint we started trolling and one of the downright popped off, a 4lb king salmon. We let him go and continued, not quite through the troll set the downright popped off again. This time the reel was screaming and line was peeling off the reel fast. I knew this was no small fish. This was the first time for Carol to net a fish and what a way to break her in. We eventually landed the 40 lb king. The next king in the boat was a little larger and the rest were 10 to 12 lb range. We caught our 4 kings 2 silvers and 2 sea bass and were back at the doc at 4:30 pm, not bad for not leaving till 10:30. We got our limits of kings with one more of the 25lb range and had lots of compliments on our r23 lots of people had never seen one and were surprised it was built in As. The r23 handled the ocean conditions well and was comfortable to fish out of.We are planning years trip already. The town was really nice, lots of stores restaurant's and things to do and see.

Did you trailer to Tofino? Or access by boat? If by boat, where were you coming from and how was the trip?

I am also curious about whether you towed to Tofino, motored up the coast, or boated out of Alberni Inlet. Since Barb and I will be retiring to Vancouver Island with our R25sc next summer, Tofino is on the radar.
I lived on the Island in the 70s and 80s, and Tofino has always been one of my favourite little coastal towns. It has changed much over the years, but is still dear to my heart.
We drove the highway to Tofino 2 years ago, and it did not look very friendly to towing a big boat. It is much better now than it used to be, but still narrow and winding with steep hills. What bothered me most though were several places where the road was carved out of the rock cliff, and the overhang did not look like our boat would clear without crossing over into the other lane. On a tight blind corner that drops off hundreds of feet to the lake, that did not give me warm fuzzies. Not sure how the big semi trucks and RVs do it, but I'm sure many do.
I'd be interested to hear about it if you, or others, have done that road with a boat in tow.

Sorry for the late reply, we were on vacation. We trailered the boat. We took the Anacortis ferry to Sidney. It was a 5 hour drive from there to Tofino, launched the boat at the public doc and the resort had trailer storage. My wife had not been on the ocean in a small boat before so I didn't want to chance her getting sick on crossing the straights.my friend took his boat from seqiu to Ucluelet the same weekend, he has a 23 foot reinken walk around and did alright. He said it got a little lumpy the last hour of his trip, a ways by boat further to Tofino. We are planning to go again next year and we will trailer again. We had no problem with the roads, we took our time and took it easy.

Good to know that the trip has been easy and not complicated

Thanks for the feedback. I had written off any attempt to tow on that road, but now I will have to give it a second thought.
Good excuse to go for a drive to Tofino and check it out again. 😀 We are going to the Island for Christmas. I always did enjoy a winter trip to Long Beach to watch the winter storms.
